traditional orginal skinhead girls from the 1960's.. you can see alot of the mod influences in these outfits

some modern day girls

#

In the past girls had to be girly girls and act like women.. you would never see girls being "one of the lads" etc. then when skinheads came along it was a way for a girl to become one of the lads act tough etc. this is one of reasons it was so appealing. At the time it was so out-there and controversial.. but by now days standerds its pritty mild. Girls found it much harder to fit in with skinhead groups as they just seen them as a girl.. one way to fit in and instantly be part of the scene was to shave your head. This was in a time though were girls were still ment to be all girly so thats why they kept the front bits long to discuise it and they still looked girly for everyday work etc. this hair style stuck and is now the iconic image of a skinhead girl

i love this

i nearly convinced my friend to let me give her a chelsea but we ended up shaving the sides instead i really do think shes got the look to pull it off i cant put it into a few words but it would have worked for her.

from a friends myspace hes not really a skinhead but i love this picture of him (the guy on the right) and he has the most amasing tattoos i've ever seen. he used to have long hair and only shaved his head to get it tattooed

Aww thanks for posting the photos they're really great.

Someone mentioned Gavin Watson and I'd definitely recommend his book Skins if you are interesting in seeing more photos. There is a photo I wish I could post of a girl , she has a great big chunky cardigan teamed with docs and a fred perry. It wasn't an arran knit but I've been searching for a one ever since !

oh, I liked that film...and the effortless cool, comfortable in one's old-clothes, punk vibe. I like the guys in the style much better than the girls, however.

Agreed, unfortunately if I found someone rocking this trend I would probably cross to the other side of the street. Some looks are too extreme that its not so easy to disassociate them with their history.

Agree with that. (Now just sufficial talk, don't kill me for that. I know that skinheads are not only about style and there's a lot more behind it. I know, because I used to date one, butSome men can rock that style but truth is that it doesn't look good on everyone. I like it on some men because it makes them more manly. But with girls.....it is just that it makes them manly too Especially hate the Chelsea haircut
