I think my favourite "Snow White" interpretation in film was Dario Argento's "Suspiria" and Sigourney Weaver playing the wicked step-mother(brilliantly)in "Snow White : A Tale of Terror". Alot of people say that version of the film is as close to the actual story anybody could ever achieve. Lest to mention, both have inspired me a great deal.

If anybody can find some good pictures from those,I would be greatly appreciative. Otherwise,I found nothing significant through Google or anything.

i love suspiria scott. another really good fairytale retelling is Freeway (interprets Little Red Riding Hood). it was produced by Oliver Stone, directed by Matthew Bright and stars Reese Witherspoon and Kiefer Sutherland as the Big Bad Wolf. i dont know if this is too off topic, but a photographer i like, Anthony Goicolea, did a series of self potraits that depicted an A to Z of fairytales. the link: http://www.anthonygoicolea.com/NewAn...ytalemain.html

Another great movie based on fairy-tales is "The Company of Wolves".
Here's a plot description from nytimes.com:

Quote:
PLOT DESCRIPTION
Company of Wolves is Little Red Riding Hood for the Alien generation. Sheltered 13-year-old Sarah Patterson, living on the edge of a foreboding woods, is visited by her grandmother Angela Lansbury. The old lady delights in telling Sarah the most horrific stories, usually involving what happens to little girls if they trust wolves--the actual, rather than symbolic kind. Later on, Sarah sets out through the woods to visit her grandmother. She makes the acquaintance of a seductive young huntsman (Micha Bergese), who turns out to be.....well, what big teeth he's got. The ads for Company of Wolves, would further develop some of the subliminal themes in showing a wolf springing from the open mouth of poor little Sarah Patterson, were warning enough for the faint of heart. Actually, the horror is secondary to the remarkable Grimms-Fairy-Tale ambience which the film successfully sustains from beginning to end. And, in keeping with the original unexpurgated versions of most fairy tales, the sexual subtext is never far from the surface. You guys should check out http://www.surlalunefairytales.com/index.html
It has everything on fairy tales, like illustrations, history, modern interpretations, etc.

Here are some illustrations of Little Red Riding Hood by Jennie Harbour, circa 1921. I wanted to post them because imo you could see the art deco influence in it: the clean lines and the flapperesque outfit And does little red have a bobbed haircut?

Illustration are also from surlalunefairytales.com
