Because anything '70s always beats something '80s, nice to see a thread on bellbottoms. I often think about what if designers brought back the classic "elephant ear" bellbottoms, or at least the widely-flared jeans from the mid-late 1990s. Today's flares are more modest compared to some of the '70s style bells, but I have always had fondness with flares in regards to bottoms as well as some tops. It's because of flares as to why I caught on with palazzo pants, gaucho pants/culottes, various bell-sleeve tops, and more. I don't see why flares are voted down by most ladies. Among the various bellbottoms posted so far, I think Dolce and Gabbana NAILED bellbottoms. The first picture in Post #2 is pretty good. However, the second picture in Post #2 is very perfect. The ruffled shirt with the billowy sleeves (usually called either poet shirts or pirate shirts, right?) coupled with the rather dark wash bellbottom jeans make for a beautiful look.

What I've seen as the key to bellbottoms is in wearing some good shoes to accompany them. Since I've been so stuck in the late 1990s with fashion, I always liked chunky shoes or boots just for that retro flair (no pun intended). It would be cool if loafers from the late 1990s made a comeback and accompanied bellbottoms. You can try some pumps, but I think pointy-toed pumps and boots would make an uneven balance with bellbottoms. Peep-toes are all the rage nowadays, and I think they are perfectly fine with bellbottoms. I'd probably go with high heel sandals as far as sandals go. I'd even go for some that have a slight platform to them. Sneakers are very much fair game. Look for some sneakers that have a chunky or retro look. My favorite women's sneakers have been those Skechers Grand Jamz or other sneakers like them. Skimmers and sneaker sandals would also work.

See, I think retro and fun with bellbottoms because that's the way I've loved bellbottoms, especially with women. Just gazing at bells or flares flapping when a lady walks by in them is amazing to me. I think of retro fun with these. I even still like seeing flared jeans, but nothing beats bellbottoms. The wide flares are timeless for me even if they aren't liked as much as today's skinny jeans.

To end this appreciative post for bellbottoms, here are two resources I'd like to share in regards to those of you who love more traditonal bellbottoms or just anything flared:

* http://www.bigflares.com
* http://www.deedeebellbottom.com (Japanese)

Nice to see a bellbottom thread. Nicer to see some bellbottoms designed by some wonderful designers. Great stuff.

No doubt. I like everything you said however do you think people are ready for the return of the bellbottoms? I love 70's fashion but at the same time trends can be abused by people who don't know any better. Elephant ear bellbottoms? Not for most. I like Burberry's best because they were modest yet the inspiration was definitely noticeable. I'm really tired of the skinny jean and maybe this is just the "anti-skinny-jean."

I actually love the bells, but I don't see how this is different from the bootcut trend a few years ago (right before skinny jeans, when everyone was obsessed with Sevens).

The trend cycle seems so much faster than it used to be; perhaps because of blogs. Is boho going to come back next year too?

These look more like wide legged flare pants than bell bottoms to me.
Unless I am mistaken?
