to blame a woman for getting raped because of her clothing - that is one of the saddest things i ever read here on the fashion spot. style savvy, you don't really believe that rape is justified because of someone's sexy clothing?

the fact is, there are many women and girls who feel that they will only be loved in a sexual context, that no one will pay attention to them except as sexual objects, and therefore they aim to please by looking as sexually available as possible.

re: christina aguilera: i get the impression that my beloved christina has been through some pain in her day. i haven't always been pleased with her looks, particularly when she was doing the "ugly beauty" thing. but of all the pop tarts on the charts today, she is THE ONLY ONE who sends chills down my spine, and i am a professional singer. so she can wear two bandaids and a cork for all i care, just as long as she keeps singing.

oh lord I did not say anything there about justifying rape meme527^ Rape can never be justified period. I don't even know where you would come up with that. Just think about this for a second here if your a guy in a club thinking about following a girl home to take advantage of her are you gonna go for the girl next store or some vamped up girl in gogo boots and a bra top? and like you said dressing that way makes you look "as sexually avaiable as possible" you said it yourself dear. Guys will try and take advantage of that. thats all I'm saying.

I never tried to apologize I explained my point. Wearing revealing clothing can come along with a risk of receiving unwanted attention by people who may pursue in those kinda of actions. I could go on into details of rape and the mentality of rapists forever since I've done research on the topic as a law student but I simply do not even care enough to. This is a fashion forum not a bitch at strangers forum odelay.

i dont like it when people compare how a women dresses in a way that may attract rapist. This is a really scary thought for me as i did file a rape threat to the police and we dont know who the guy is...

I think fashion should be like a free spirit... if a girl is happy with what she is wearing and she looks good... a little extra flesh wont hurt as long as she doesnt look trashy because trashy men may be more attracted to that way of dressing... but in the same hand a girl can look just as amazing in a cute top and jeans...

i also think that you have to dress for the occassion...

It is totally relevant to talk about rape on this forum if you want to bring up the clothes a victim is wearing. Considering the majority of cases aren't the stranger on the street, I'm not sure why it matters how sexy your clothes are but I do not believe/think that a rapist would choose the victim depending on their clothes, its not about sex but violence. What you are likely to attract on the street, whatever you wear and wherever you go, is harrassment whether it be looks, comments or even action. Some men view women (or girls) merely as sexual objects and they will treat you that way whether you are wearing a prarie or mini skirt. I realise that in the courts, a woman's attire can be brought up and discussed but that does not mean it is justified. It means reforms need to take place.

There is the question-why do some girls/women want to show off their bodies? There are many possibliities but I think that in the right circumstances, as in out of school/work, it is absolutely fine to wear a short skirt etc. I may not like what they are wearing but I try to give everyone respect and not judge them on what they are wearing. This doesn't always work...

Oh goodness, I disagree.

Whenever I go to work especially in central london when the weather has been really hot lately I see women dressing very provacatively especially while going clubbing. Its definitley increasing over here, and it has not been played down at all.

I mean grant it some carry it off while others just look plain ridiculous especially dressing the boho look which is simply irritating me to no end now.

That article has a bit of truth in it but somehow I don't know how they anaylse the female population without knowning the reasons why women dress the way they do. Just cause we buy the magazines does not necessarily mean that we want to look like those females.

Neither do women have to! I was just thinking about why some women prefer to dress skimpily where as others don't. A lot of it must be confidence in their bodies, I can't even wear a bikini and I'm not overweight.
