I can't understand why one can't wear glasses as an accessory the same as sunglasses or any other adornment, just because some people happen to need them. Some people can only ever wear flat shoes, but we don't scoff at those who choose to wear flat shoes.
If anything, surely if ordinary glasses become something stylish which contributes to an outfit, it will benefit those who feel insecure about having to wear them. I'm of the opinion if you feel something looks good, then wear it.

I think it's because the general opinion about glasses is that it's a necessity for people who have bad sight

Perhaps the comparison to crutches might better illustrate (though slightly exaggerated) the argument of those who scoff at glasses being used purely as an accessory. Glasses , like crutches, is a tool to help a person make up for the lack of ability in a certain task, which in these cases, seeing clearly and walking. If someone do not need to use such aids, it becomes frivolous and silly (no offense to anyone) to use them. Comparison to other things like bracelets and jewellery is unsuitable cos they are made for purely ornamental and symbolic functions and not for any specific physical need.

maybe crutches might some day become an accessory too.

I agree. I also find that they're a hinderance to looking good, for me. I have to be very careful with make up under glasses or it looks strange and they cast an unflattering shadow on my face sometimes. So, the idea that a person who doesn't need them would wear them is strange - unless they enjoy the challenge of getting them to look good!

However, I still welcome this trend (if it is a trend) as it means there will be a better choice of glasses for me to pick from.

I don't mind being a four eyes, but I don't like wearing my glasses at dinner events all the time..it doesn't always go with my outfit. That just means I'll have to have around 4 pairs...

i wear glasses and contacts because i'm blind as a bat...but i dont want to spend the money to get prescription lenses in a pair of great vintage frames i found...i may just wear them with the contacts in and the clear plastic lenses in the frames

I wish I had to wear glasses (well, not all the time ) because they can make you look so sophisticated and geeky

I can't imagine myself wanting to spend a ridiculous amount of money on glasses if I didn't need them. The only reason I get nice ones is cuz I wear them all the time (more comfy then contacts). The most I ever spent was on Prada frames- $250!!

^I wouldn't buy any, but I just think they can look nice... and even if I needed some, I wouldn't spend too much money on them, as long as they fit my facial structure and my style
