that's the biggest thing for me too
where the animal can stay alive
so it can be just feathers or shaved wool
and also basically the use of millions of yarns and threads
it's quite forward and new i think

you can still get a great quality with this kind of process

even Prada's furry womenswear collection f.w 07 was not about fur
rather mohair (which is from a sheep that is shaved, not skinned and killed)

Yeah I like the way that McQueen has used it , I'm glad to see some experimentation and innovation with fabrics.

I was actually in the Tom Ford bouique yesterday and saw the most beautiful fur trimmed coat, and I have never been remotely attracted to fur on men...I guess seeing so much of it on runways has made me more open to it.

To me, the most appealing looks are the slimmer things, meaning not covered in dense, fluffy fur. That black Gucci is right up my alley, and my tacky inner-Bowie is loving the spotted Cavalli coat.

what are you talking about softgrey, that rather typical fur sort of net you see everywherer this days, or about that thread Fendi and Saga furs developed wich is a mixture of cashmere and loose fox hair, which you can also knit with?

Anyways, I can´t wait to see the furry items coming on the womens catwalks.

^probably not the yarn in the picture

funny it was very hard for me to find fur yarn made of real animal fur
i did find this from knittersreview

Quote:
or the most controversial use of fibers from animals not slated to expire, we have Fur Yarn (shown at left) that's really and truly made from trapped wild Canadian beaver pelts. The company justifies its product by explaining that these are non-threatened species trapped to help control population-to-habitat ratios, and that their producers adhere to the highest standards of animal husbandry and humane trapping.
there is a website there too

also i found on this blog, knitting in colour, someone is picking up hair from their shedding kitty cats and forming it into fur yarn

hahahaha, oh my god!! I hope Heather Mills doesnt find out about that person, otherwise they will be in serious trouble

Isn´t it overwhelming the incredible amount of things and new techniques you can create with fur, which has long being considered a sort of old, boring material, last year I visited Saga Furs design center and it was the most mind blowing experience I´ve ever had, they have been exploring new ways to work with fur since the eighties and they have developed incredible ways to aproach fur now, from turning it feather light, to mixing it with materials you would have never expect, you name it, they have done it or find a way to, for both women and men garments and accesories.

The first time I saw this topic I seriously thought it said "Hairy THIGHS mens F/W 08.09". One priceless WTF moment, that one.

excuses for the late reply

i was just looking at the Saga Furs website
they have a section on the design centre, filled with various techniques they've developed ! it's brilliant!

do you know about Haute, j'adore dior ? I remember reading about this label through some connection with Saga Furs
the designer for that is Vincenzo de Cotiis, orig. an architect
he uses luxury material along with fur in his collections

yeah, i really had no idea you could do many things with fur Thanks for telling me !
