I find this "trend" very interesting. I say "trend" in quotation marks because I haven't really seen it anywhere, so not sure if it really made it very far as an actual trend.

I'd like to try wearing a scarf, like a hijab, as I believe they're called... but I'm a little scared, simply because I'm worried having a little blonde hair blue-green eyed girl wearing what is often a very important Muslim custom, could be kind of offensive to anyone Muslim, since I am not Muslim and in no way practice their religion. I know it's about "style" right now, not religion, but for those who are Muslim, I think wearing the hijab is a lot more than just "style" or a "trend"...

I think maybe I'd be more open to wearing a hijab, were I in another country where most women and girls wear them. Then it would look more like I'm being respectful of their culture, and not like I'm just ripping off their culture to make a fashion statement.

... If any of what I just said makes any sense. :p

^ I understand, because I'm too afraid to do it as well. But honestly, putting a scarf on your head isn't specific to Muslim culture. You find it in every single culture. Then I feel a bit silly because it's not like say, Audrey Hepburn, had any fears about covering her head with a scarf. :/

"My friend got kicked out of her house for not wearing the hijab and shes only 15 almost 16. No joke. Kicked out nowhere to go until my friends mum took her under her wing just before her exams! and shes not even a slut she dresses decently and actually believes in her religion. I wish more people would focus on modesty from the inside and their behaviour before they focus on the outside"SHSH- i'm so sorry about your friend. i know there are so many muslims who force their daughters to wear hijab and i think it's totally wrong. i mean the hijab is not just a garment on top of your head, it's above all a state of mind.Unfortunately here in ksa women are forced to wear it "in some areas" because of the "Religious" police.. not because they're ready to wear it.

great thread, i have to say for some reason i was surprised to find it here. I'm part egyptian and grew up in egypt so i've seen and been around women who wear hijab many many times, and its always interesting to go back to north america and see how they perceive women wearing hijab as oppressed sad people..

anyway this thread makes me excited to go back and see all the trends

I found this blog. It's actually really good. There are some pics there from an Islamic fashion show they had in Malaysia.
