The Jabot F/W 06.07
[from style.com/firstview]

August 10, 2006: The jabot took a fresh turn on the Chanel runway, but Karl Lagerfeld wasn't the only eighteenth-century buff in town. Anna Sui paireda ruffled top with a black velvet jacket and leggings, channeling Little Lord Fauntleroy, while some swashbuckling forerunner to Captain Hook appeared to be the inspiration behind some of the more elaborate neckwear at Nathan Jenden's debut. Alexander McQueen, meanwhile, took the idea and went full frontal with it: Frills wafted in cascades of airy blue down the front of his romantic show-closing—and showstopping—coat. –Laird Borrelli.

it's nothing innovating, i personally tried it a little too much around this time but i think it's done in an interesting way this season...less corny and slightly macabre in most cases.

This is exactly the sort of thing I love too well, and if everyone else just goes on the fence about it (like you seemingly have, Mullet), I won't be surprised. I have a growing collection of button-down blouses with oversized bows wringing the neck, frills seeping from the collar and whatever other horrors your morbid imagination can conjure...

The quickest way to tell the jabot from, say, a cravat is probably by associating Karl Lagerfeld with the latter, or so I hate to say.

Maybe I'm wrong. I've confused myself now...

I think I may have cravat/jabot/mullet in one big jumble.

....i probably do so as well!.

it's good that you do approve this thread, jennifer. hardly surprising though, taking in consideration your affair with anything coffin-related. :p

oi. i refrained from posting the karl effects, except for the fendi look. i dont think it was done properly at Chanel...but if someone's willing to post it, it'd be more than welcome, of course.

Wait a sec... I thought I knew but now I'm confused too. What is the distinction between ascot, jabot, and cravat?

Isn't the jabot the ruffles down the front and ascot is a scarf that is attached to the collar? Maybe I'm wrong. THen what is a cravat?

from mw.com:

cravat -- a band or scarf worn around the neck

jabot -- a pleated frill of cloth or lace attached down the center front of a woman's blouse or dress

ascot -- a broad neck scarf that is looped under the chin
