Molten Metal S/S 08
Noticed this with a little help from style.com.

If the transparency trend is all about air, then the metallic trend is all about water, this time around it's less robotic looking and more liquid looking which lends it a slightly softer feel.

In addition to that, it seems to be predominantly cool shades of silver and various mutations of it.

Alberta Ferretti

Anne Klein

Haider Ackermann

It seems like designers have finally figured out a way to make this look tasteful and wearable.

What fabrics are the designers mostly using to get this molten metal-look?

I think it's some kind of development of the "jean d'arc-trend" (for some it's probably just a plain coincidence) but with a much softer look, much more summery.

It's a really beautiful trend. Thank you for the notification!

Great thread! Love the Vera Wang & Nina Ricci, as soon as I saw the title I couldn't help but think of Marios Schwab's take on the trend;

Ah, thanks for starting this thread Spike.
I really like the idea of this 'water look' especially in addition to the transparency trend. And the idea of the two elements mixed together makes me very excited. !
Most of these I don't really care about though, and some I won't even comment on.
But then there is some I truly love. Especially the Nina Ricci, Yohji Yamamoto, Marios Schwab and Lanvin

Come to think of it, I think we kinda have all the four elements as four individual trends right now. this ones, the transparency, the ethnic/tribal trend which could be seen as 'earth' and all the orange and yellow tones, which was in many of the s/s 08 collections, could be representing fire..
I might be fishing for something that's not existing here, but it just hit me...

yet another marvelous thread, spike!. I so love this , it seems like metallic just refuses to leave and keeps showing up with such a force every season but this has got to be one of the most exciting interpretations for me.. like you said, it's less robotic and more discreet for a change.. I love how it almost resembles liquid mercury in some of these looks, especially at Rochas, Anne Klein and Alberta Ferretti... the patterns in Balmain's look on Gemma is quite pretty, too.
thanks for all the pics, guys!.

Tinetush, you're absolutely on to something!!!!

Personally I find the most beautiful thing about this to be the way light moves across the body with the fabric's sheen, it's stunning to watch.
