See-Through Shoes S/S 2012
I don't know if you've noticed it but after looking at a lot of details pictures, i discovered that we have a lot of see-through shoes this season!

Ermanno Scervino SS12

Richard Nicoll SS12

Emporio Armani SS12

I've seen a lot more but i can't remember in which collections. For me, it's definitely going to be a trend this season!

Seems like Cinderella came to vist.

Don't dig it. Then again I just don't like feet. Don't really want to see them.

I'm going to be honest... there has almost never been a pair of see-through (as in these clear shoes) shoes I've ever liked. That even includes jelly sandals from the '90s. I'll admire some mesh shoes or something, but not these. I don't like cage shoes, but I'll even take those over these clear shoes.

In all likelihood, I'm sure they'll catch on like crazy while I shudder to find any reason to even remotely care about these shoes.

I don't like clear plastic used in the upper shoe. Everytime I see I just think of my 5th grade teachers shoes where you could see dirt, fluff, dead skin... that got stuck between the inner sole and the clear plastic

purplethistle, that's too much information ... and one "reason" more to don't like this trend.

Can't say I'm a fan of these....one transparent panel might look ok, but I've worn clear shoes the first time around (it was the 90s, I was 12, don't judge me) and they were fun at first but the sight of feet and toes squashed/straining against plastic - and they WILL look like that, even if you've got the right size - is just off-putting.

And besides, what's the point of wearing shoes that need you to get a pedicure and then cover your toes anyway? Maybe someone could make it work with a brightly-coloured pair of socks, but on the whole....no thank you.

^ I agree, BebeRoxana. Colored, lucite heels can be interesting and fun. Clear plastic uppers just look .

I'm a fan of them on the runway (particularly what Phillip Lim did with them) but if I ever saw them in real life? oh no no no. I feel like it'd be too much like the jelly shoes from the 90s haha.

Reminds me of those clear sandals and shoes that were popular in the 90's. All I can remember from that is seeing the sweat pool between the skin and the plastic.

I believe that with clear straps or uppers the finishing draws the line between cheap and fashionable. Prada's shoes from S/S10 had stitching around the edges of the plastic upper. When it's just plain clear vinyl it tends to look cheap and stripper like. Hardware and fasteners make a difference as well.

Ex:

Prada- The edges are finished. A thicker vinyl is used. The shoes look crisp. Note the lack of metal hardware.

3.1 Phillip Lim- Thin vinyl, edges unfinished. The addition of metal hardware cheapens it.

The details matter when dealing with this material.

The trend also reminds me of Dolce and Gabbana Spring 2007.
