Sequin Pieces
Sequins becoming bigger is no surprise.. but not like previous years as a detail as it is as a full piece now

what do you think of this?

I've noticed a lot of fully sequinned (?) pieces are becoming popular in stores like this French Connection dress:

fcukbuymail.com

or the leggings Victoria Beckham wore:

i think this has become really mainstream. i like some of them, but it depends what you wear with it or else it will look really trashy or like a club outfit.

this has been around forever.

the trend now is to use it in very stark and basic pieces, such as sequined tees, tight pants, tight dresses.

otherwise it's too 80's-vintage-thrift score dress ups.

i very much love victoria's pants.

argh, i LOVE sequins, but it has made me come to a moral dilemma.
where i live, when we have semi-formal every winter EVERYONE wears black. just an LBD. plain. boooring.
so i wanted to do something different.
different being white and completely sequined.

personally, i LOVE it, and would like to buy it now.
BUT, semi is around february. like january or february.

so i need to consult the fashion gods.
do you think sequins will still be in, by februaryish? the end of winter?

i can hold on to buy the dress, but i'm just really afraid that when the time comes and if i do want it, it won't be there. (this always happens, and is why i have tons of impulse-buys in my closet. lol.)

help!

I also love sequins and I don't really consider them to be trendy - but I only wear sequined pieces at night in the city. I just love what happens to lamp light refracting off sequins. Most of my sequined pieces are accessories rather than clothes - so much easier to maintain. Also, I prefer vintage to new.

^me too, and I agree it's not really a trend, the colour and size does seem to vary a little bit from time to time though.. I think I'm partial to very big sequins.. ...I remember falling in love with a short dress from Givenchy by Alexander Mcqueen, winter 2001.. it's a shame the pictures aren't available anymore, the sequins were huge.. and red.. very 60s in a way.

i know other people can pull this look off..but it's certainly NOT me. sequins are a bit too burlesque, ostentatious, and attention-grabbing for my liking.

^^oh yes, ale! . I still have dreams about the blue dress worn by Karolina Kurkova in the same show.. even if it'd look corny and overused now, I still want it..

..now someone who really likes his sequins..

i have to disagree somewhat, that sequins have always been mainstream.

it wasnt until the 80s came back big recently that sequins were seen on clothes for anyone under 55. In the last year i bought a super mini t-shirt dress with silver sequins, and then recently when i popped into zara i got a tanktop dress that was green striped all-over sequins. I never would have bought these a year and a half ago! I love them now, but of course would only wear them at night.

Ah, I love the sequins at Dries Van Noten.

I myself really want a pair of sequined pants. Though I want the sequins to be larger, and the fit to be a bit more baggy than the ones Victoria Beckham is wearing, and I want to wear them with something over-sized. Though I doubt I'll find a pair, so I'll try to make them myself.

And I agree sequins looks best at night. - I love the shine

I say get it. Sequins aren't super-trendy and the white and the chiffon sash make this one a little sweeter. Especially since it's for a night-dance thing. Just keep everything else more minimal so you don't look too 70s disco. Plus when you are done with it you can either consign it or save it for another time when you are out of high school (I'm assuming it's a HS dance?). I saved a lot of my dresses and have reworn them for parties, NYEs, etc. When you are in a new city or hanging out with new friends it will be a brand new dress again since no one has seen it. Or the ones that are no longer my taste I gave to younger cousins in HS still. I think this was my favorite part of HS - buying new dresses for dances.

And as for sooner or later, I dunno, I'd get it now if you really like it. With BCBG some styles will be kept in the store for years literally while others are just one season. Not sure which this dress is.

I love those Dries pieces so much. Is the first top meant to perfectly match under a tropical sea, or am I having little mermaid illusions, again
