Ive definately seen this trend popping up on the streets recently.
although its quite frightening to see for the first time, its actually quite genius too. definately reflects the mood of a lot of young people.
When you say it reflects the mood of a lot of young people today Acid.. what do you mean exactly.. soem sort of statement ?
.
i think that a lot of young people feel like they live in volatile times, especially with the threat of terrorism, rise in gun and knife crimes amongst young people etc... i think that a lot of people want to create a barrier between themselves and other people.

I think that the 'cocoon' trend was attributed to this feeling as well..but where as 'cocooning' yourself is rather cosy.. forget sharp tailoring and holding in your gut if you have one.. this strikes me as being different, a more negative take on that feeling..
it's almost an anti-individualism...making yourself a non-canvas..? A paradox.. a statement about rejection of the styled exterior..but as the same time (inadvertently?) one that looses humanity.. if that makes any sense at all.. I'm just babbling..
As for the barrier part.. that's paradoxical as well is it not.. when we have people spending hours a day upkeeping their Facebook etc..
Well fashion is in fashion , this could be argued as a reaction against branding logo and individual style.
Hm, I can't see how this could help young people to feel better. Are we not longer willing to show ourselves in public? or just another cry for attention?
I haven't seen this trend, but I have had an idea about finding a ski mask in a nice color (i.e. not black, not bankrobber ) and some large pink ski goggles and wearing those on the street. But that is because it gets damn cold around here, not so much because of my feelings toward society...
I'm not sure how far could this take off. wasn't the UK even implementing an anti-hoodie policy for certain areas a few years back?. I remember Kit posted an article about it.. not sure if it was the UK anymore but regardless of the trend purpose, I think there is a danger for everyone in dressing like this.. I might fear kidnappers but I certainly wouldn't like to be mistaken for one of them.
having said that.. I do appreciate the idea from a fashion point of view..
