I've always loved her style, but I 've just realized that almost every of her event looks were hits.
My absolute favourite remains the Prada dress at Cannes.

Gosh, she really kills it on the red carpet. What I love about her is that she knows how to dress for her shape. I think she has thicker thighs, so she keeps to knee length of longer to accentuate her slimmer and more defined upper body. Also, her dress choices are interesting and subtlety sexy despite their conservative length. Go Carey! I think she deserves all the attention she is getting from Anna Wintour because she is quite a fashion inspiration. I'm sorry, but a lot of actresses being championed a fashion icon don't have much individual style... :/

I completely agree.

I would never expect someone like Carey to have such a good eye for designers. She's just full of surprises. She seems like such a "normal" (I don't mean that in a bad or good way, just different) girl to me

Carey has a stylist and wears designer dresses on the red carpet like every other actress. Prada, Chanel, Gucci..etc. She's no different than any other actress.

Ha ha! You're spot on! I actually wrote my little praise for Carey right after visiting Blake's thread. The latter has a great bod that pulls off clothes well, but her choices are basically just sexy, not unique. Carey usually chooses quirky pieces that I can't see many other celebs choosing.

I love it when she curls her hair, it makes her look like some ancient Greek creature, like a lovely female version of Apollo or something.

That is true (even though she has never worn Gucci :p). I got into Carey style when I saw candids of her. I love her French New Wave-inspired style.

it's not ONLY that....
many actress do have a stylist and access to great designers and never look as good as Carey (Katie Holmes for example.....)
Her style is a regal and she does know how to dress and which clothes look good on her (many people don't), that's her secret....

i'm like Lola, candid style was what attracted me first to her fashionwise and i remember being so disapointed with the award season dresses, but IMO she and her stylist def stepped up in the last months when it comes to RC outfits - she was missing youth feeling when it comes to dressing up (either due to shape of the dresses or the dresses itself - BAFTA look example), but she's def looking better and better (Kane and that yellow dress for the LFF i keep forgeting who designed it) on RC.

With this I think it's because she knows what works for her, and isn't wearing things just to impress people. Like so many actresses wear certain things to be talked about, but Carey isn't like that which is good. She has a stylist yeah, but I doubt she'll wear anything her stylists tells her to if she isn't too fond of it.

Her dress at the BAFTAs is in my top 2 favorite looks of 2010 along with Zoes Givenchy Oscar dress.

She might use a stylist but that doesn't mean that the stylist gets complete control, she still decides what to wear along with the stylist, it's always a two-way work process in putting together a Red Carpet outfit. Most don't have the time to pull together looks and call around that's why it's perfectly normal to hire a stylist.

I also fell in love with her style after seeing her candids like Lola did, and it's in her candid style that you can see that she really does have an eye for fashion. She's no Megan Fox where there's a complete day and night difference between candids and red carpet, she has a unique style both on and off the carpet that's why I appreciate her so much as a fashion figure.

I absolutely love her red carped style! It's quirky and lovely in my opinion.

Carey has amazing style, but sometimes...her shoe choices are questionable.
Like those brown boots she wore with that sequined Chanel dress.
And occasionally, the whole look is questionable like that flintstones look she wore to the UK premiere of Never Let Me Go.

But Carey's worst looks are still better than some other celeb's "best" looks.
