Multi-millionaire Coleen Rooney has snubbed private healthcare to have her baby at an NHS hospital.

She and husband Wayne's first child - due in the next fortnight - will be born at Liverpool Women's Hospital.

Coleen's choice has delighted staff at the specialist hospital, which claims to have the highest standards of maternity care.

A source said: "The midwives here can't wait to help her through the birth.

"It is a tremendous fillip for all the dedicated and hard-working staff. They are really proud of LWH and overjoyed Coleen has opted to support them and the NHS."

Coleen, 23 - worth £8 million in her own right - recently made a documentary featuring her adopted sister Rosie, who suffers from Rett Syndrome, to raise funds for NHS hospices.

Coleen's choice of the top-rated hospital, just six miles from where she grew up at Croxteth, shows she's kept her feet on the ground... as other WAGs go private for their births.

Victoria Beckham had sons Brooklyn and Romeo at London's Portland Hospital, also chosen by Jamie Redknapp's wife Louise for the births of their two children.

The hospital was also where Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard's partner Elen Rives had her two girls. However Alex Curran and Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard's two daughters were born on the NHS at the hospital chosen by Coleen which has a maximum three-star rating from the Healthcare Commission. Her tot is due on October 24, Manchester United striker Wayne's 24th birthday.

Coleen, who is busy with Wayne preparing the couple's £3.5million mansion in Prestbury, Cheshire, can't wait for the big day. The WAG, who is planning her own range of baby clothing, admitted: "Because you're getting bigger, you can't wait to meet the baby."

A spokesman for Coleen declined to comment.

More than 1,000 midwives - who earn an average of £25,000 - could quit the NHS under Tory plans to freeze public sector pay, the Royal College of Midwives has warned.

Heavily-pregnant Coleen Rooney ditched the high heels and wrapped up against the cold as she popped out for lunch this afternoon.
She is spending the last few days before her baby is born catching up with friends and family, and met up with her brothers at a cafe in Liverpool.
The 23-year-old wife of Manchester United star Wayne is expecting their first child this month.


And it seems she is taking a sensible approach to fashion and dressing for comfort in the last stretch of her pregnancy.
Coleen wore black Ugg boots, leggings, a leopard-print maternity top and black coat and accessorised with a black Chanel handbag, scarf and knitted beanie hat.

The WAG put paid to internet reports that she had given birth yesterday.
The Rooney's first child is due on October 24 - Wayne's 24th birthday - and she revealed last week that she would be having her child at an NHS hospital.


She is planning to have the baby at Liverpool Women's Hospital, which claims to have the highest standards of maternity care.
The couple have turned down million pound offers for the first pictures of their toddler.
Rooney's representative said: 'There are no bids being accepted - there won't be any picture deals.'
