Blimey! Things are moving fast in the Liz & Shane show... (dailymail.co.uk):

Quote:
It was reported last night that Shane Warne had asked Elizabeth Hurley to marry him.

And today the glamorous mother-of-one showed off her new engagement ring after accepting the Australian cricketer's proposal. Posing together with Hurley's son Damien at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship this afternoon, the pair looked happier than ever as Hurley proudly flashed her sapphire and diamond ring.

The stunning ring, which features a huge square sapphire and two diamonds on either side, looked right at home on Hurley's left hand.

The Estée Lauder model, 45, went for a casual look in a pair of navy jogging bottoms, jumper and scarf as she took to the golf course with Warne, who opted for a baby blue jumper and beige trousers. Damien, nine, clutched on to his mother's arm as he posed up for a photo with Hurley and Warne, who will soon be his stepfather.

Warne is believed to have proposed in a restaurant at the exclusive Old Course Hotel in St Andrews following a romantic meal. Warne, 42, made the declaration in front of stunned VIP guests in the hotel’s fine dining Road Hole Restaurant, sources said.

The source said: ‘Shane proposed over dinner and it was fairly public, not a private affair. It was a VIP crowd in there this evening. It was residents only, including Dunhill past players. He didn’t get down on one knee, but when it was announced the other guests in the restaurant stood up and applauded. Everyone there was absolutely delighted.’

A spokesman for the Scottish hotel said they were unable to comment on the news.

A shot taken from the night (same source):

She was sporting a stunning sapphire and diamond ring on her wedding finger today, but Elizabeth Hurley and Shane Warne chose not to comment on the reports he had popped the question when they appeared together at the Dunhill tournament today.

Now, the couple have confirmed their engagement by thanking fans for their well wishes over their Twitter accounts.

'Thanks for all your congratulations,' Hurley tweeted, adding a picture of the couple which she said was taken just before the dinner last night at St Andrews where Warne, 42, proposed.

He's a cricketer, which is a summer sport (like tennis, the game gets delayed when there's rain because the pitch has to be dry), so he's basically a guy who's spent 20+ years regularly out in the sun for hours and that has damaged his skin (a lot of cricketers look the same at around his age). He's also had quite a few cosmetic changes since they've started dating and that just makes him look worse. But he's also had some (but not all) snaps photoshopped and he's threatening legal action over them. He doesn't have a good history with women though, he's cheated on his ex-wife and I'm pretty sure there was an overlap between when he split up with her and when he started seeing Liz.

I hadn't paid much attention to Liz Hurley lately but she's looking as good as ever. I totally love her style. I'm seeing a lot of knee- and below-the-knee-length dresses, which I love.

I don´t thing they fit good together but if she´s happy- that´s important.
Personal note- after the last Versace S/S collection i´ve seen a lot of dresses she could wear, especially the evening section.

In the You supplement of the Mail on Sunday, 16 October 2011 (dailymail.co.uk):

Quote:
'Shane makes me happy': The newly engaged Elizabeth Hurley bares all

Now that their long-distance love affair has been sealed with a £30,000 engagement ring, Elizabeth Hurley tells Jane Mulkerrins why Aussie cricket legend Shane Warne ticks all the right relationship boxes – and reveals the secret behind that makeover

Elizabeth Hurley admits she is ‘very happy’ as she curls up on the sofa of her temporary home – a New York penthouse overlooking Central Park. And there’s a good reason for Elizabeth’s happy glow: her high-profile fiancé, former captain of the Australian cricket team Shane Warne, about whom she has sent many a merry tweet. When the Twitter flirting began after the couple met at Glorious Goodwood in the summer of 2010, it seemed an unlikely pairing: the groomed, glossy Elizabeth and the blokey, womanising Shane. But their relationship has blossomed – they announced their engagement two weeks ago in St Andrews, where Shane was playing in the Alfred Dunhill Links golf championship – and Elizabeth refers to Shane and his three children (aged nine, 12 and 14) fondly as ‘my new family’. (She was divorced from husband of four years Arun Nayar earlier this year.)

What’s more, following an eight-year break from acting, Elizabeth has been filming once more. ‘Dipping my toe back in the water,’ she says, with a glamorous guest-starring role in the hugely successful US TV series Gossip Girl, which details the lives and loves of a group of gorgeous, moneyed young New Yorkers and their equally easy-on-the-eye parents.

Seventeen years on from her debut on the red carpet – and the world’s radar – in ‘that’ safety-pin Versace number alongside then boyfriend Hugh Grant, she looks even better now. At 46, she is enviably wrinkle-free, with tumbling caramel tresses and golden highlights (‘Extensions!’ she exclaims). Today, her studiously slim but womanly figure is clad in a V-necked jumper, skinny jeans and towering Prada heels. She says she’s exhausted: ‘I look like a bloodhound,’ she claims in her deep, Home County tones. In fact, however hard she has been finding filming for 14 weeks in New York, and flying home every weekend to see her nine-year-old son Damian, she’s still looking luminous.

Just as we are about to begin our interview, the land line rings. It’s Damian, calling from a payphone at boarding school. Calling him variously ‘baby’, ‘bear cub’, ‘D face’ and ‘little friend’, his mother reassures him that she will be back in Britain the following morning and will bake, ice and decorate a cake at their Gloucestershire home, before collecting him from school for the weekend.

Actress, model, face of Estée Lauder, beachwear designer, businesswoman, organic farmer (she rears sheep and pigs), devoted mother and fiancée – how on earth does Elizabeth do it?

It’s a very exciting time for me and Shane.
We aren’t making any immediate plans to get married – we’re going to enjoy being engaged for a while. We both want to spend more time with each other’s families, and Damian and I are looking forward to visiting Australia together in the near future.

I have always been attracted to Australians and Australia.
There is enough Englishness there that we feel at home, but there are enough differences to make it exciting. They make tea and they eat sausage rolls, play cricket and rugby. I love Aussie accents, too. And I do think they have more of an openness of spirit. Shane has all those qualities.

It definitely helps that Shane has three children – and he’s a very good dad. We both understand that if there’s a child’s football game one of us can’t miss, then that’s it, it’s not up for negotiation, we go home and do it. I think it would be difficult for me to be with somebody who didn’t have kids.

We have to make a lot of diary entries: Damian’s school dates, Shane’s children’s school dates, Shane’s work dates, my work dates. It’s a lot to synchronise. It is doable, but it would be easier if I was dating someone who lived round the corner. I haven’t made it easy for myself on the logistical front! You couldn’t live further apart than England and Australia, and when you’re calling from New York to Melbourne, somebody is always getting up and somebody is always going to bed. But you get up a bit earlier, or you go to bed a bit later, and you can always talk.

Shane makes me happy.
We have a lot of fun together, we laugh a lot and that’s very important to me. I couldn’t put up with ‘serious’ for too long. I don’t care what anyone says about me smartening him up – we’ve both been around too long to care, and that stuff really isn’t important. My family and my new family with Shane and his kids are what’s important. His children are really beautiful, sweet and affectionate. They get on brilliantly with Damian, and as an only child, it’s great for him to have them around when they come to stay. I love having a lot of people in the house – the more the merrier.

I don’t think Shane has bought any new clothes since I met him. He’s been dressed by the same people for years. I think he looks best in sports gear, and in my opinion he looks exactly the same as he always has – he’s just lost a hell of a lot of weight, about two stone. Shane is very disciplined, does a lot of exercise and watches what he eats. I really like cakes and sweets; Shane’s vices are beer and peanuts – and there aren’t many peanuts in my house…

Being in Gossip Girl is enormous fun. There are so many rules about what I’m allowed to say [about it] and what I’m not, it’s terrifying, but I play a strong character who is quite predatory, with a media empire and questionable morals. Being old enough to be the mother of most of the cast, I think it’s fair to say she’s a bit of a Mrs Robinson. She has great, punchy scenes and fabulous outfits; it’s all very glamorous.

For the first eight years of Damian’s life, I stayed at home, worked on my businesses and just did short, sharp jobs. Now he’s at weekly boarding school, so I can do this kind of thing a little more easily. I’m here in New York during the week while I film, then I fly home every weekend. All that travelling is quite tough, but it is nice to have a bit more professional activity – I think I’m ready for it. I never want to make movies back to back again, but this is fun and I’m enjoying it enormously.

Damian is in love with both Blake and Leighton [Blake Lively plays Serena van der Woodsen, Leighton Meester plays Blair Waldorf]. Over the summer he was on the set the entire time – he never got bored once, and he got to say, ‘Action!’ a few times, too. He even made his own short film this summer, starring me, Hugh [Grant, her former partner and Damian’s godfather], Shane and my niece and nephew. I was working late one night and Blake asked if she could take Damian out. So she took him on a little date, to an ice-cream parlour. That was his first date – Blake Lively!

Damian would rather make a movie than kick a ball. He isn’t the sportiest boy. But Shane did very kindly give him some bowling lessons in the summer. It was slightly wasted on Damian, who would prefer to eat ice cream with Blake Lively!

Divorce is, of course, difficult for a child.
I didn’t go through it as my parents stayed together, but I have a lot of friends who did. I think what makes a massive difference to a child is if they see their parents are OK, and Damian knows that I am very happy now. He does get disappointed, though, when we are not all together on family outings and holidays.

Arun and I are still best friends – I’m too lazy to fight – and Arun is essentially Damian’s dad [his biological father is American millionaire Steve Bing, who tried to deny his paternity after claiming his relationship with Elizabeth was not ‘exclusive’]. They have holidays together and Arun visits him at school and watches him play football. Arun’s just bought a flat and he asked me to go round and have a look at it before he put his offer in – we’re still very close.

I don’t find it difficult to negotiate with the various parties. I find it much harder to be at war. It’s just easier when we all get on, and I don’t see why we shouldn’t. Hugh, Arun, my sister and I went on holiday together many times, and Shane plays golf with Hugh regularly.

I don’t eat a great deal myself, but I don’t really do any formal exercise either. I will eat cakes and chocolate but not vast meals. I have eggs most mornings, and my favourite lunch is steak with broccoli and a salad. I eat a lot of protein and I don’t have any cow’s milk. I’m very active – if I’m in the country I will walk the dogs for around two hours a day. I have a wonderful pilates instructor, but I don’t think I’ve actually seen him all year!

Shane did borrow my moisturiser, but now he has his own – I don’t want him putting his great big fat fingers in mine. He has a really big right hand from chucking a cricket ball thousands of times. I’ve never met a man who didn’t like face cream or who wasn’t secretive about his diet. They are obsessed with their bodies. They spend hours in front of the mirror, pinching bits, going on mad runs, all of them.

There’s part of me that loves the glamorous life. I find it stimulating, and I like being surrounded by clever, entertaining people. But I also want to spend time at home in tracksuit bottoms, with the dogs, enjoying open fires, cooking. So it’s very important that I’m with someone who enjoys all of those things too. I think I’m pretty lucky – everyone I have been with has had that balance, although Hugh was probably the least domesticated.

I don’t have that many followers on Twitter – about 200,000, which is nothing compared to Stephen Fry, who has about ten million. Having been in a position where people make observations about you for so long, it’s nice to be able to make them yourself. The day of the press statement has gone. Of course, everyone on Twitter is aware that no one is saying anything private or revealing, but it’s fun. I always found when I was reading an interview with an actor that I wasn’t interested in their political opinions – I just wanted to know what they’d had for breakfast. That, for me, is what is interesting about it – I like to know what Julia Roberts is feeding her children.

I don’t model my own bikinis any more. Elizabeth Hurley Beach [her swimwear line] is in its sixth year now, and last year was the first time we hired another model to do most of the shots. I said, ‘I will do the kaftans, but someone else can do the bikinis.’ I am all in favour of women doing whatever makes them feel comfortable – my mother wore a bikini until she was 60. I wear a one-piece quite a lot of the time, though, particularly at the beginning of a holiday when I’m feeling a bit white. Then I wear a tiny bikini when I’m alone by the pool.

I do have a strong work ethic. I’ve always believed that if you put a lot in, you will get a lot out, and I still think that is true. If you are slothful, don’t be surprised if the phone doesn’t ring.

Gossip Girl is on Wednesdays at 8pm on ITV2
