LONDON: Arsenal striker Emmanuel Adebayor was subjected to questioning last night for reportedly attacking his lover.

Cops questioned the six foot three inch soccer player at his West Hampstead flat in North London after his girlfriend Charity complained of being assaulted.

According to The Sun, Charity told the cops that twenty-two-year-old Emmanuel hit her across the face during a heated row. Police officers said that she had suffered bruising above her eye, but did not need hospital treatment.

Adebayor was taken into custody at Holborn Police Station on suspicion of common assault. He was later released on police bail after his cousin, Akim Balo, protested his innocence.

“It’s a load of rubbish. It was an argument, the sort you would have with your woman, nothing more,” Balo was quoted as saying.

Adebayor, who signed to Arsenal for seven million pounds, said, "I’d probably be a gangster if I weren’t a footballer."
