he's very picky when it comes to his career, I guess he's not well-known [yet] among hollywood tabloid readers.. it's only a matter of time, though.. since he's dating penelope cruz.
he's one of my favorite actors, easily in my top 3. I don't find him particularly attractive but his acting is the kind that breaks bones with a single sight of his... very powerful. he first made an impression on me with Huevos de Oro.. not a positive impression, though.. I was too young , I remember my friends and I watched it on television and then memorised and would repeat constantly all the obscene lines with a spanish accent . he was undeniably good in that movie, I later realised.
I also love his performance in The Dancer Upstairs, I was completely sold to him when I saw that .. and Before Night Falls of course.
.. my favorite bardem film is The Sea Inside, I think he pretty much reached the acting iceberg with that performance.. I never cried more watching a movie , he's the kind of actor that's skilled enough to touch a chord without a single facial movement (ahem, the part where he imagines himself flying through the window?), it was extremely personal, I felt like walking out of a funeral when I saw it in the theaters.

ooh. thanks for starting this, adorefaith!, long overdue!.. he's very well-dressed I see.

my favourite is the sea inside too mullet...
and i have never cried more in a film either..
it has left such a big impact on me..it was so brilliantly crafted..

and javier was incredible...subtle and so powerful..
the moment you bring up is one i always remember too...him imagining himself flying through the window and out over the ocean...wow..

i have wanted to go to galicia ever since i saw that movie..
and i have seen it many, many times...haha..

you're probably right...now that he's dating penelope his profile will rise..
i just wish it would be for his acting rather than whatever his love life happens to be doing..

Me too!! Itīs the only movie, that I start crying 5 minutes after it begins. Itīs so sad the scene when someone ask him why he never cries (considering what happened to him) an he says "Iīve learned how to cry, smiling". It breaks my heart.

it is exactly that...heart breaking...
it has been my favourite film since i first saw it..

every character is developed so beautifully..
his father, his young nephew...all of them...it's captivating..

ive never been able to watch the same movie twice...but i can watch the sea inside over and over again and each time i catch something new...a new subtlety that i didnt pick up on before...and each time i think about the issue a bit differently..
i dont know that any other single movie has challenged my opinions and feelings the way this movie did...and particularly the way javier's character did....he played it with such understanding and depth...
