Regarding her accent, two things. It's true that accents don't change easily after a certain age, but it's different when your partner has the same native language as you, but is from a different region. Then it's very common for your intonations and mannerisms to be affected, and Kate's had longterm relationships with an Australian and an Englishman.

Secondly, she grew up in WASPy parts of Connecticut and Massachusetts, and has referred to herself as a "blueblood". To Americans, that usually indicates a patrician upbringing, and the typical accent does sound rather British in many ways.

I'm born and bread connecticut and even though I hate to defend her I admit I've got a muddled accent just from watching movies and having international friends. The CT accent if very nuetral and easily manipulated, however the Mass one is NOT. If someone is from Mass you f-ing know it. Then again, I'm not taking into account the martha's vineyard crowd who are extremely snobby which is her background so she may have a very easily influneced accent.

on a side note I caught part of superman returns on tv and she needs to spend more time on acting lessons than dressing up.

i beg to differ on the accent... being from Massachusetts

Kate is from the south shore (cohasset) and the accent there is neutral...
the town she is from is generally upper class..

those who have Boston accents tend to be from Boston and some of the surrounding towns... which does not include kate...

^I worry that we're treading thin ground here with this discussion...there are not only different regional accents within the same state, but also social class-influenced accents. (I'm not American, but this is echoed everywhere in the world to my knowledge.)
