If she wanted to blend in and look 'proper' she wouldn't have opted for a bright red two piece. Zara Philips has managed not to dress well beyond her years and withough being a frump and she's been in the spotlight for years, no one has ever raised a brow at her. I feel like people use that as an excuse for her horrible dress sense sometimes.
Zara Phillips is not anywhere in the position or even the limelight that Kate is.
I don't think anyone is using anything as an excuse - it's just their opinion, just like you have yours.

This is what I can't wait for!

She's just not a fashion plate. More like some girl at the mall. She needs help!
It will be fun to watch for the improvements.(I'm crossing my fingers )
And she may still take a conservative route, but as someone else mentioned before, conservative can be fashionable! No excuses!

^Money can't buy you style or taste. But money (and royal connections) can buy you good stylists that make you look like you have style. Just look at Hollywood and our own CP Mary is an excellent example of what money and connections can do.

I don't recall saying it was an invalid comment nor that opinions weren't allowed, I merely stated mine.

Zara Phillips is still part of the Royal family and if she dressed in a tacky way the newspapers would be all over her. She gets consistent coverage in the press but yes, obviously she is not in the same position as Kate as that's unique... I still stand by my point. If she dressed more age appropriate or took risks I think the press would actually embrace it, not criticize her. Even Camilla dresses more youthful sometimes. She's the only young person in the Royal circle who dresses like that to my knowledge. Sometimes her frumpy/too old outfits make her look awkward imo

^This, definitely. Kate dresses so old and it always ages her. She doesn't look old (her face), but because of her style she could easily go for 30+ and more. And who wants to look older than what they actual are? She should dress more youthful (which does not mean she can't still dress conservatively).

^Can't remember the brand but it was sold out immediately. Think it was something British? NVM, looked it up and it's Issa. I know the whole world approved of it, but I didn't like it. I did like that it was blue - like royal blue so it was a good choice in terms of colour.

I think the red suit is kind of cute (except the turtleneck) but it's quite 80s with that peplum waist - which at least does something to work with her boy-shaped body. It just doesn't feel very true to her - but what else can be expected.
