Chanel model-turned-fashion-entrepreneur Kimora Lee Simmons, in the midst of a whirlwind homecoming this weekend, has been busy since she was an outcast teenager living in a modest apartment in Florissant.

May 4, 1975 — Kimora Lee Perkins is born to Vernon Whitlock Jr., who is black, and Joanne (Kyoko) Perkins, who is half Korean, half Japanese. Kimora's parents never married and separated early. Perkins was a single parent.

1988 — At 13, while she was being taunted at school by girls probably jealous of her exotic looks and emerging diva complex, Kimora is discovered by Karl Lagerfeld, deemed his muse, and signs an exclusive contract with Chanel.

1992 or 1993 — Russell Simmons, 34, sees Kimora, 17, at a Mary McFadden runway show and becomes entranced. Her best friend, Tyra Banks, tells the confirmed playboy to step off; he does but not for long.

1993 — Kimora goes to her senior prom alone wearing a Mary McFadden dress she had modeled the week before on a New York runway. (Wonder if it was actually the dress Simmons first saw her in?)

December 1998 — Simmons and Kimora wed. Part one: A civil ceremony at New York's City Hall. She wears a gray tweed Christian Dior suit with black Manolo Blahnik boots and carries a bouquet of white roses. The groom, 41, wears Phat Farm jeans and a sea-island cotton shirt. Part two: A ceremony at an Anglican church in St. Bart a few days later. She wears a couture gown, and he wears more Phat Farm. Simmons' brother Joey, known as Reverend Run, officiates and asks if she will take him "for richer or for richer." She does. Supermodels Tyra Banks and Veronica Webb are bridesmaids and wear a new line of jewelry by Russell called Baby Phat.

April 1999 — Baby Phat expands to lingerie and swimwear. In a New York runway debut, Kimora wears the final look: a white fake fur string bikini. Kimora soon becomes creative director and starts a clothing line.

Jan. 21, 2000 — Ming Lee Simmons is born.

January 2001 — The family's lavish 7,000-square-foot penthouse in Manhattan is featured on MTV's "Cribs." On Sept. 11, the Liberty Street home, listed at $5 million, is damaged during the terrorist attacks. Good thing the Simmonses bought a 35,000-square-foot house sitting on four acres in New Jersey that year. In 2006, the 10-bedroom mansion had an asking price of $20 million.

August 16, 2002 — Aoki Lee Simmons is born.

2003 — Kimora debuts as a judge on "America's Next Top Model." Janice Dickinson describes the on-and-off-camera rivalry between herself and Kimora in her book, "Everything about Me is Fake and I'm Perfect."

January 2004 — Kellwood Inc. of St. Louis pays an estimated $140 million to buy Phat Fashions, LLC, founded by Russell Simmons, which includes Phat Farm and Baby Phat. Kimora remains president of Baby Phat and creative director of Baby Phat, Phat Farm and her higher-end KLS Collection. The couple launches the Simmons Jewelry Co., a partnership with M. Fabrikant & Sons, one of the world's largest and oldest diamond wholesalers.

July 2004 — Kimora Lee is arrested and charged with marijuana possession and a variety of vehicular infractions in her Mercedes-Benz coupe near her New Jersey estate. The incident is unspectacular except for possibly the cutest mug shot on record.

March 2005 — "Beauty Shop," premieres in Los Angeles. Kimora co-stars and, perhaps, makes a fateful connection with Djimon Hounsou, who also appears in the film. The two were not romantically linked until 2007, a week after Hounsou made the gossip columns for getting cozy with Cameron Diaz.

April 2005 — In an infamous Vanity Fair interview, "Unbearable Fabulosity," Kimora threatens to beat any woman down for coming near her husband. He was long rumored to be a philander.

September 2005 — Baby Phat Goddess by Kimora Lee Simmons fragrance debuts, followed by Golden Goddess and Baby Phat Golden Goddess.

February 2006 — "Fabulosity: What It Is and How to Get It" ($29.95, Harper Collins) by Kimora hits the stands.

March 2006 — Russell and Kimora announce their separation after just more than seven years of marriage but continue to work together, make public appearances and live together with their daughters.

August 2007 — A new reality series on The Style Network, "Kimora: Life in the Fab Lane" debuts.

September 2007 — During Kimora's Baby Phat fashion presentation for New York Fashion Week all eyes are on Kimora's soon-to-be ex-husband Russell Simmons, 50, sitting side-by-side with her current beau Djimon Hounsou, 43, an Academy Award-nominated actor and former Calvin Klein underwear model.

February 2008 — Mattel unveils the Kimora Lee Simmons Barbie doll, $59.95. This Barbie wears a halter top, pink denim skirt, faux leather belt with sparkly KLS logo buckle, patterned tights, thigh-high boots and a full-length faux chinchilla coat with leopard print KLS lining. Kimora's dog, Zoe, is also immortalized in plastic. One sad note, Zoe, a black Pomeranian, died this week.

Feb. 24, 2008 — Kimora goes "Live from the Red Carpet" at the Academy Awards.

March 4, 2008 — At Hounsou's premiere of "Never Back Down," the belly bump under her minidress does not go unnoticed. In November, New York gossip column PageSix reported that she already had plans to start a family with Hounsou: "When she was asked what's on her Christmas list, Kimora responded, 'A baby!' ''

Kimora Lee Simmons, head of Baby Phat clothing line, combined two bedrooms in her 49,000-square-foot Saddle River, N.J. home to create her expansive walk-in closet. "I wanted my closet to look like a boutique," she says. It contains over 500 pairs of jeans, 35 custom-made Hermes Birkin bags and an extensive collection of jewelry. The closet, which is decorated with leopard-print carpet, marble columns, a mini-bar, and flat screen tvs, only holds some of her clothes—the overflow is stored in other bedroom closets. Everything in her closet is photographed and stored on her computer so she can easily put together outfits, "I'm very neurotic is what my closet says about me," she says. "It's always in great order."
