Here's Lupita's make up for the London premier of 12 Years a Slave in detail. I'm so jealous that she can make Studio Fix foundation look so luminous.

Quote:
Last week I had the pleasure of working with a very special newcomer- Lupita Nyong’O- who was in London for the premiere of Steve McQueen‘s much anticipated ’12 Years A Slave‘ starring Chiwetel Ejiofor.

I was thrilled when I got confirmed as I rarely get to make-up someone with Lupita’s skintone for the red carpet. The chance to be able to do something glamorous (rather than editorial which is usually more conceptual or ‘urban’) using my favourite new products was a fabulous opportunity for me.

I ensured that her skin was moisturised but not greasy. This is particularly important for darker skins that are being photographed with flash. Flash isn’t a friend to dark skin, it can turn perfectly applied make-up with healthy glowing skin into an appearance of plain old greasy. Having said that, I don’t mind a little shine, there has been a tendency for many women of colour to overdo the powdering for fear of looking shiny, but personally, I find it old-fashioned and a little ageing. The skin can look a little ‘dead-looking’ when velvety matte, especially in real life and under the crude light of red carpet shots.

Foundation
I applied two shades of Mac Studio Fix with a sponge, starting at the centre and around the eyes with NW48 (lighter, more orange with neutralizes grey/ash) and finished around the edges of the face in the darker NW58.

Powder
Then I powdered, using Bobbi Brown‘s Loose Finishing Powder in Basic Brown with a brush (and again just before she went out).

Eyes
Now for the eyes… Illusion D’Ombres by Chanel are one of the greatest innovations in eye shadows in years-and I mean that. They act like a cream, look like a powder, and are so easy to use that they make everyone look like a pro! I love to use them with my fingers. Lupita wears Apparition here.

Lips
Lupita loves colour and she requested a ‘coral-y red’. I love this Nars Semi Matte Lipstick in Heatwave.

Final Touches
I often use individual eyelashes on the red carpet, they are not so difficult to use and are often found cheaply at chemists/drugstores- but remember to get a dark glue as the white can often be detected. Duo have the best ones.

Eyelash curlers also make a HUGE difference to eyelashes.

Mustn’t forget mascara!
My favourite at present is Rimmel London Lash Accelorator in Black.

And for shine control, better to keep blotting papers with you rather than powder alone. This will help avoid a chalky-looking build-up.

Chanel have a gorgeous blotting paper compact with a mirror, but you can get them in chemists/drugstores everywhere these days.

So that’s the Lupita lowdown from London, Hope you enjoy giving it a try…

She has the best make up artist. Seriously, most black artists I follow are not as adventurous make-up wise. I love how colourful, elegant yet quirky and upbeat her make up is. it is so out of the box, I love it I would kill to have him do my make up

She can pretty much wear any color and look amazing. It's nice seeing the explosion of color she brings to the red carpet. Makes me side-eye the women who only wear black.

I've been seeing Nyong'o pop up here and there for a while now and I must say her style is just sublime. I'm looking forward to seeing what she wears during award season! And I am so looking forward to her role in 12 Years a Slave, it just looks like a very well made film in general, and I've been hearing good things about her part in the film.

impeccable! I love that she loves color, but at the same time that black dress at the London premiere is just sublime on her.

I wonder who is styling her

i was planning to start a thread for her here and imagined no one would know who she was, the fact that she already has a 4 page thread shows that she's one to watch

The hype for her performance in 12 Years is well-deserved. She was outstanding and will make you cry.

I have a serious girl crush on this woman. She is beautiful, intelligent, phenomenally talented, and her style is to die for. Every time she steps out on the red carpet she looks on point. Can't wait to see more of her this coming awards season, I'm already getting an adrenaline kick just thinking about what she'll wear to the Oscars!

This girl left me speechless, she's so fantastic. She's got such an amazing presence, wonderful style and so much grace. I can't wait to see more things coming for her.

Oh, and her look in the white Miu Miu dress must be the best one I have seen on the red carpet in months.

She looks amazing in that grey fuzzy dress, I love it! Great video from Vogue too, I know it's a bit early to start talking about magazine covers, but wouldn't it be amazing if she landed a Vogue cover in the next year?
