I still have trouble believing that Mike Nichols directed something as funny and vibrant as 'The Birdcage'...then made that painfully dramatic, strained 'Closer'.. I don't think Natalie is a good actress. People are in awe of how she 'looks like Audrey Hepburn' and her college education. But she is so wooden, very strained and trying way too hard. Just absolutely terrible in Closer, yet she won a Golden Globe for it (over Cate Blanchett as Katherine Hepburn in 'The Aviator'.) Speaking of Blanchett, she originally had Julia Robert's part in 'Closer' but dropped out for another film. Thank god.
I'd have to say Garden State would be her best work as an adult, but it was certainly nothing excellent - then again, neither was Garden State. She did seem more comfortable and natural in it, though. |

^ Her performance was not wooden- watch Paris Hilton in House of Wax; thats what you call a wooden performance. Her & Clive were the best part of that movie. And I wish people would see beyond her being/looking like Audrey, I agree that she has something in her face that is slightly similar though she will never compare, she is her own person. I think people are more in awe of her as a person & her movies. If she was a crap actress, nobody would care, she'd have no movie roles and she'd be panned by critics and producers. She's so different to most of her peers, it's so refreshing to see someone who in my opinion is reasonably intelligent, talented and not a fame-whore. The fact that she gave such an amazing performance for her first-ever role when she was so young proves that she has potential and talent. Imo, I don't think she's really been challenged enough in her film roles or been in a wonderful movie yet but she's young so I'm sure it'll happen soon enough.

![]() Natalie Portman is a classic beauty with that extra special sparkle. We love watching her evolve from the pretty jeans and t-shirt girl about town into a stylishly beautiful woman on the red carpet. Rachel Goodwin, one of our esteemed stylemakers, is the artist behind Natalie’s frequent red carpet glamour this month. One of our favorite looks was Natalie’s attendance at the JTN Productions’ Vision Awards in Los Angeles, where she appeared radiant and glowing in a classic up-do and red lips. Rachel gushed about working with Natalie confirming that not only is she naturally gorgeous, but she is intelligent and incredibly sweet as well. “She carries herself with a special grace that other woman admire and want to emulate.” What she loves about Natalie’s glamour is that “she always looks light and natural, never overdone, never severe.” This keeps her looks approachable and achievable for those who don’t have a celebrity stylist on hand for their big nights out. Here’s Rachel’s step-by-step on achieving Natalie’s classic look: SKIN: Rachel prepped Natalie’s skin with Amore Pacific Moisture Bound Vitalizing Creme . “It gives the skin a great hydrated, dewy look.”FACE: Natalie had been in the sun so Rachel wanted to play up her color by using a shade that was just a tiny bit darker than her natural shade. “I chose CHANEL Teint Innocence Compact in “Hale”. Rachel used the cream compact version of the foundation, dipping her trusted pink beauty blender into rose water before applying her makeup for sheer even coverage that blended seamlessly.Although she wanted Natalie’s skin to look hydrated and fresh, she did’t want her entire face to look shiny under the cameras. “I used Guerlain Parure Compact Foundation with Crystal Pearls in “Dore Mythic” underneath her eyes, nose and forehead to take down the shine on her face and keep the light focused on her cheeks.”BROWS: Rachel professed a special love for Natalie’s eyebrows, which she compared to Audrey Hepburn. She loves to play up the classic shape even more by brushing Natalie’s brows upward & gave them extra definition with a Makeup Forever #4 brow pencil .She further enhanced the brow shape using a Makeup Forever matte concealer pencil just under the brow bone, giving a highlight without shimmer. Rachel also used the pencil under Natalie’s eyes. The pencil adds matte light and a very clean finish, showcasing the shape of the brow and the eye makeup above.EYES: On her top lid only, Rachel created a very thin cat eye using a liquid liner from Chanel in Black #10. She added individual lashes at the outer edges of Natalie’s eyes and then blended them together with a coat of Chanel Immitable black mascara.CHEEKS: Rachel wanted to keep Natalie’s cheeks very natural by giving them just slight boost of color, “very subtle,” using Penny Lane by Nars . LIPS: Rachel completed the look by complimenting the luscious lashes with a glamorous lip. She mixed a cool red and a warm red together to get just the shade just right. She started with Givenchy Lady Pulp #706, a berry shade, and with her finger rubbed it in to Natalie’s lip to stain them and make sure the color would last throughout the evening. She topped her lips with Chanel Glossimer in “Spark” which is a sheer red with a touch of gold sparkle in it. welovebeauty.com |

Natalie the Director!!
According to Variety, Natalie will be stepping into the directors chair for the first time to shoot A Tale of Love and Darkness, about Amos Oz. Natalie Portman has inked a two-year production deal with Participant Prods. for her newly formed Handsomecharlie Films shingle. Banner's first project is "A Tale of Love and Darkness," on which Portman plans to make her feature helming debut. Story is based on the bestselling memoir of Amos Oz, with Naomi Foner ("Running on Empty") in negotiations to adapt the screenplay. That project, however, is not set up at Participant. Annette Savitch has been tapped veep of development for L.A.-based Handsomecharlie Films, which will develop socially relevant films. Portman said she was inspired by Participant's mandate to produce such forward-thinking projects as "Syriana," "Good Night, and Good Luck" and documentary "An Inconvenient Truth." "We all have the same desire to make meaningful and artistically fulfilling films and are committed to the idea of stories leading to greater empathy and action for world issues," Portman said. Participant prexy Ricky Strauss lauded Portman for her interest "in projects that entertain and empower." He added: "She has the heart of an artist and an activist. It just seems like a natural relationship, and we couldn't be more pleased." natalieportman.com at Handsomecharlie films!!charlie is her adorable dog![]() ![]() natalieportman.com Last edited by melfreya : 02-11-2007 at 07:38 PM. |

. What I mean is, say for example someone like Keira Knightley; she got bad reviews for Pirates & Pride & Prejudice even though people consider her an A-list actress or whatever, so even though she has the status, her performances are still critiqued & sometimes in a bad way. And actresses who are there because of their money/blonde etc (do you mean like Paris Hilton? lol, I couldnt think of any people who are really bad but get good movie offers) get bit-parts and star in bad films that are just basically crap...![]() |

Keira got bad reviews? For Pirates, I don't think I read much about her acting skills (critics are such geeks for girls in corsets
), but for P&P I only read great things - and I found her acting fantastic, personally. |
