Yes she sounds very pretentious and snobby. She has a point, I guess, but she really needs to lighten up and not be so intense.

I don't get it - what was rude/pretensious in that comment?

Good question. It is only rude/pretensious when you go out of your way to spot that "tone of voice" or whatever. People give it a rest already. It doesnt matter what she says, she'd still be called snobby etc.

I have always defended Natalie. She is my favorite actress, after A. Hepburn. So I can assure you, I definitely didn't go out of my way to hear her obviously patronizing tone to the reporter. Or to notice that smug shrug/eye roll when she added "unfortunately" as an afterthought. It was a light question, yet it seemed lke she just HAD to assert the fact that she's a Serious Actress and can't be bothered by trivial things like fashion. That's pretty pretentious.

No, that is not the reason at all. I thought it was rude, as Bella Lass said, because of the way she worded her answer. Also, as I previously mentioned, the girl recently had a campaign with Dior. It doesn't get any more high fashion than that.

^doesnt matter if she has a point, 1) that's not the place to say that, and 2) if she absolutely just had to get that out, she should have said it in such a way that didnt make the reporter sound stupid because that is just rude. and 3) as lola svelt pointed out, she has a contract with dior! did she honeslty expect them not to ask her questions about fashion??

Incredibly rude, no. Kinda snobbish, yes. But if she's fed up with the questions at least she answered truthfully and didn't fake it.

It didn't sound like she intentionally was trying to be rude, it just sounded like she was maybe sticking up for all of the people she worked with in the movie, that really worked their butts off, and then people are just like oh Natalie, what are you wearing!
I understand, but perhaps that's something you tell a friend, not while you're answering questions/giving a speech!

Yes - I didn't feel her comment to be out of line. It's kind of true, actually... Hollywood is strange these days.

I thought her comment was fine, nothing rude about it. She makes films, she is not a designer and not the type of person to care much for fashion, as we can see. So she has an excellent point and interviewers should be asking questions about the film-not her dress.

Half of being a noted younger actress is not just your talent but also how you present yourself to others, including how you dress. The reporter did nothing wrong and, lets stop making excuses, Natalie's reaction wasn't the best.
