To be honest, I suppose it's a combination of factors really. For example, when she first came to Denmark, she was "endorsing" a lot of cases, usually the royals endorse charities such as the organization for Breast Cancer etc. etc. Mary's interest laid with the fashion industry. She just came off as quite shallow. We always hear about her shopping excursions etc. etc. She bought tons of designer clothes. Sometimes the Press liked to say, that she was buying Danish brands and how admirable that was, but truthfully she buys equally much, if not more of foreign fancy brands such a Prada and so on. I'm sure you can understand that it's a bit of a sore spot, considering for a every Danish Crown (the currency in DK), I make, I pay around 38% procent of it as tax. My tax money is financing Mary's designer clothes. But obviously, I can't blame her. If it was me, considering my interest in fashion, I would probably be the same. But the thing about Mary is that she always come off as aloof and rather self-centered, and she only started to endorse more worthy charities after being dictated to do it. I guess, what I'm trying to say is, that she seems fake. I do think she's a good mother, I've never heard otherwise, and I do hope and sort of believe that she genuinely loves Frederik, but as I said she doesn't seem to care a great deal about others.

I've got the same impression. I don't know if her background is "bogan" or not but it certainly wasn't high class which makes it feel very fake whenever she appears looking like someone who stepped out of a British manor. Add to that a tendency to say rather silly things and the result is IMO not that charming..

Ok, I see your point. I understood you are Danish and that peaked my curiosity more to hear your feelings on her. Thanks!

Thank you for giving us a Danish perspective but don't most royal families receive large amounts of money from their respective tax payers? I would imagine they get a fixed salary per year and they can spend it on whatever they wish but I am sure it is audited and reported yearly.
As for Mary's clothes, why can't she wear non Danish clothes, all the other European royal princesses do. Maxima of Holland got married in a Valentino dress and no one seemed to mind.

Can anyone id the beautiful metallic dress with stars on it please.

And what is a bogan? is it someone from Australia?

I mean I don't know a ton about the royals, but I would assume that a lot of the bitterness about the fashion would come from the fact that she has the fashion industry as one of her causes, but she buys more pieces from international designers than she does Danish. Forgive me if I am wrong...that is just the interpretation that I am getting.

Bogan is an Aussie slang term-I can't really describe it myself but there's a wikipedia entry on it. It's a lot different than a chav, I can tell you that much.

Isn't she the Imelda Marcos of the North Princess? I could be getting these wrong (not my interest) but if so, the fact that she brings her daughter wearing torn shoes to an Official Photo Op (!?!) while posing for cameras is truly bizarre behaviour.

You're not wrong, that is exactly the problem. Now that she's chosen to endorse the Danish fashion industry, she can't be a hypocrite. Especially, because this is a way for her to actually make money, by advertising for the Danish fashion industry.

Yes, the royals gets a certain amount of money every year, and it's generally watched over what they spend it on. That doesn't mean, the average citizen doesn't get ticked off, when they work hard for their money which is then frivolously spent on designer clothes for Mary. It is true, that the royals do need clothes for the extravagant affairs they attend, but there's a little thing called tact. And it really isn't fun to read in your morning paper, that Mary just went on a shopping excursion where she spent 50.000 DKK a day.

That is, what? A couple of thousand dollars A Day?

But how can she spend all that money and still manage to look so spectacularly boooring?

I wonder what Caroline of Monaco would do with all that money...
