Scarlett Johansson The Face of Dolce & Gabbana’s New Cosmetic Line

Dolce & Gabbana have long been in the fragrance game but now they are adding color cosmetics to their product offering. The line is very lux and each item comes in a gold case and velvet pouch. Much like the rest of their collection, the cosmetics are inspired by the beauty of Italia - from Mediterranean blues to the black of volcanic ash. They’ve added scent to their cosmetics as well, harkening back to retro lipsticks that had scents. The duo chose Scarlett Johansson to be in the ad campaign where she evokes the old school glamour and beauty of Marilyn Monroe. The campaign was shot by Sølve Sundsbø in a London studio. The photo is beautiful and there are 2 other photos that are supposed to be less inspired by Ms. Monroe. I’m curious to see what the other photos are like, but if they’re anything like this, they will be gorgeous. Distribution for the new line is highly selective and in the U.S. it will be sold at Saks on Fifth Avenue in NY and Beverly Hills in Los Angeles.

The Amica cover is awful! Love the D&G advert, though!

Brilliant idea, regarding the D&G cosmetics. They couldn't have chosen a better woman.

I'm getting so tired of this constant rehashing of the classic Hollywood bombshell look, especially in advertisements. It's unoriginal and played out. Nothing sexy about a cliche.

I also agree. What is that quote? Something along the lines of,

Yeah, I don't like it either even if I like her and Marilyn glamour.. maybe they could try to find new sexy.. or something.

This is interview with stylist Annabel Tollman from Elle UK January 2009. She has worked with Scarlett and there are parts from interview where she meants her:

p.26
Q The most interesting celebrity you've styled?
A Scarlett Johansson. We've worked together for five years. Our styles have evolved together.

p. 98
... a year later landed a job styling shoots for Interview magazine, which is where I met Scarlett [Johansson], when I styled her for a cover shoot in 2003. Before the shoot, I remember watching a preview screening of Lost in Translation and thinking she was wonderful. On the day, she just wandered in - this little thing in a pair of flip-flops, very low-maintenance. I gave her my number and told her that if she needed anything else to call me. She did. We've worked together ever since.

The first event I styled for her was the Lost in Translation premiere. It was terrible exciting because it felt we were in it together - it was my first big red-carpet even and her first premiere as an adult. I found her a cream Dolce & Gabbana suit which she wore with a shark's tooth necklace of mine. She looked amazing. Scarlett and I have matured with each other. For that first premiere, Scarlett had a mullet. Now, five years on, her style is old Hollywood meets modern young lady...

there are Interview cover and D&G suit from scarlett-fan.com

i read that story in elle. i was struck by the fact that scarlett's stylist and scarlett have very similar body types (tollman has a 32E chest and a 28 inch waist). so i guess its not really a surprise that scarlett chose her as her stylist.
