Part I
I didn't pay much attention to red carpets this year, and when I did, I wasn't really impressed. The following exceptions mostly made my list because they found their way through my memory but mostly by their natural approach to fashion while still keeping a sharp eye on proportions and textures, which resulted in pretty timeless looks, perhaps some of them lean more into conventional or classic territory but I still felt like they were a lot more relevant than all the gimmicks seen this year (and how many ridiculous hats did we see this year?!), in addition to highlighting instead of overwhelming the natural beauty of these actresses/models.

1. Kirsten Dunst at Chanel HC S/S 2011
I wasn't completely sold on the hair but the way she carried the jacket and the navy blue pleated dress brought memories of Lanvin F/W 2003, I don't think any other actresses could've pulled this off and look as regal and non-granny as she did.. and that's probably what makes her such an exciting dresser, that she knows what she's putting on, very Nicole Kidman from 2001 to.. 2003 .

2. Daria Strokous at the 64th Annual Cannes Film Festival
One could argue she's a model/she got dressed/she gets paid for that, well, so do actresses these days, the girl looked absolutely out-of-this-world.
top3.jpgtop4.jpg

3. Kirsten Dunst at the 64th Annual Cannes Film Festival closing ceremony
She dressed like someone ready to receive the award of a lifetime, as shallow as it may sound, you could tell how truly special the afternoon was for her just by looking at that dress and how it's made, while still being something you want to remember for years.
top5.jpgtop6.jpg

4. Elizabeth Olsen at the 64th Annual Cannes Film Festival
First time I paid attention to this girl and first time she ever did an appearance of this nature and I love how she chose to make it, the lace dress + flat sandals combo was gorgeous and so was the hair + makeup and most importantly, her attitude + genuine smile.

5. Arizona Muse at the 2011 Costume Institute Gala
I can't seem to find better pictures but anyway, I loved how she rocked the simple, 20s silhouette.

Part II
...
6. Astrid Berges-Frisbey at the Pirates of the Caribbean world premiere
Epitome of natural beauty, girl just slips into Chanel and voilà, looking about a million dollars, same trait as Lea Seydoux, but without unexpected silhouettes.
top11.jpgtop12.jpg

7. Kiko Mizuhara at the "Somewhere" preview and reception at the Louis Vuitton store in Roppongi Hills, Tokyo.
I love how she picked such a Japanese dress from the LV collection and how she almost looks mannequin-esque in it, very modern, it totally belonged to her.
top13.jpgtop14.jpg

8. Kirsten Dunst at the 64th Annual Cannes Film Festival
I know this "blonde actress wearing mustard dress and red lips" look has become a norm when you want to make magazine's best-dressed lists but I'm actually glad Kirsten gave it a go, I couldn't get enough of how amazing she looked, way to make a comeback after the Marie Antoinette thing in her previous visit to Cannes.
top15.jpgtop16.jpg

9. Natalia Vodianova at the 2011 Costume Institute Gala
One word: SUPERMODEL.
top17.jpgtop18.jpg

10. Kirsten Dunst at the "Melancholia" UK premiere
Kirsten overload, from beginning to end, I know, I'm not such a fan of her daily style but you can see the years she's been in the business with simple public appearances like this and like I mentioned in look 1, the genuine interest she has in the exploration of fashion and her own style.

*eta: I'm suddenly realising that these lists may be counted by people instead of by look.. are they? if so, excuse moi .

I have a whopping 121 looks that I really loved this year (and I noticed two looks here that I forgot), mostly from the first half. I'll post my list at the end of the year when I have time. I keep all of my favourites in a folder throughout the year. And that's not even counting my favourite candids. How sad am I?

That's not sad at all! That's a great thing, I'll do the same for 2012, because now I can't remember every single look that I've loved this year.
I'm trying to make my list now.

These are my faves, for their consistently good dressing and true-to-themselves-style, not one look here or there: Kirsten Dunst, Sophia Coppola, Taylor Tomasi Hill, Naomi Watts, Charlize Theron, Gwen Stefani, Kate Lanphear, Daphne Guiness, Stella McCartney, Keira Knightley, Angelina Jolie, Alexa Chung, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Helena Bonham Carter, Alison Mosshart, Tilda Swinton, and even Olivia Wilde, who is hit and miss, but whom I love because, like others on my list, she marches to her own fashion drum (same with Florence...).
