i was really excited about this till i just saw the trailer.....awful. seems he's turned what was actually a piece of drama into a silly austin powers-esque slapstick dullard. i was really looking forward to something akin to sleepy hollow or those gothic horrors from the 60's and early 70's but this is awfully disappointing. aesthetically,it looks gorgeous as ever but i can't take the narrative at all.
has tim lost his edge a bit? remake after remake is all he's done this decade.
^I thought the original tv show was supposed to be campy...? I´d say this maintain that quality. It reminds me of Beetlejuice and Edward Scissorhands, like Burton is returning to his beginnings
I too thought the trailer was awful but I still have hope. And I will definitely be seeing this in theatres. I feel like this may be one of those films where the trailer does it no justice.

Building the hype ahead of its May 11th release, “Dark Shadows” has just revealed nine new character posters.
Included in the new round of promo posters are Johnny Depp as Barnabas Collins, Eva Green as Angelique Bouchard, Gulliver McGrath as David Collins, Helena Bonham Carter as Julia Hoffman, Bella Heathcote as Victoria Winters, Jackie Earle Haley as Willie Loomis, Jonny Lee Miller as Roger Collins, Michelle Pfeiffer as Elizabeth Collins Stoddard, and Chloe Moretz as Caroline Stoddard.
Playing on the family aspect of the plotline, each poster has the tagline “Strange is Relative,” and they certainly do fit the part.
“Dark Shadows” is about an imprisoned vampire, Barnabas Collins, who is set free and returns to his ancestral home, where his dysfunctional descendants are in need of his protection.
camp but not grotesquely silly. it was as much fun as it was dramatic but it never had this level of cheesy, not even ironic, humour. which is really what broke the spell for me in that trailer. i was expecting more of a drama and since this is coming from the vision of tim burton perhaps even a do-up.
I found the trailer awful, and had prejudice while entering the cinema.
But the movie is really okay/nice. It has funny parts, all the people are beautiful (well maybe except Johnny's character, lol); the costumes are lovely also. Tim Burton made a great movie. My fave is Eva Green and her character Angelique.
I totally recommend the movie. I never like watching comedies, but this one is really okay and I find it half-comedy. The other half is me watching and thinking WOW! (regarding the effects and design)
IMO:
Such a dissapointment
Visuals are nice as expected but the story is not dark as Sleepy Hollow nor ridiculously campy as Beetlejuice but a thing in the middle that left me nothing by the end of the movie.
i was suprised how good this was and funny.
eva green was great as she always is.
the only thing i did not get was chloe.
she talked the wierdest way and her face movements were funny.
overacting i think.

So should I save my money for something else?
I was actually wanting to see this movie, just for the few minutes Hannah Murray is in it. Im not a fan of Tim Burton, but I was willing to give it a try. I guess is Batman or nothing for me now.
