My opinion of Newcastle runs as such:
Good:
Countryside
Lively city
Good nightlife
The Tyneside Cinema
Some cool people at Newcastle and Northumbria Unis
Bad:
A lot of nightlife is utter CHEESE
Very homogenous, EXTREMELY xenophobic in parts
Small compared to other cities
Arts and 'high' culture (restaurants, avant garde theater etc...) non-existent despite what Geordies try to tell you...

Buenos Aires Small, chic, perfect for night owls - and people sing in the streets without a care in the world

I think i'd have to agree with you there especially that a lot the night life is cheesy - and i haven't even had a proper chance to do the nightlife properly either!
as a whole though to me its still a nice place everywhere has its bad points - Nottingham is absoloutly attrocious in some parts but i still love it

New Orleans/Bay St. Louis.... it's heaven and it's a fun- I found a shop in BSL that sells old vintage dresses, shoes, and purses- one was a gucci dress from the 70s... NO has great shopping and kick *** night life!
london - for its culture and diversity...it is always alive and energetic
edinburgh - the incredible architecture; an odd mix of ancient and modern (the only place in the world where I want to sit at starbucks simply because that enormous long window looks straight out onto a priceless view of princes street and the hill and castle)
vienna - the culture and art, and the way even people who may not be rich seem to dress with such elegance (I think of the distinguished little old ladies in their cashmere coats with fur collars). also, so many beautiful men
budapest - the first major european city I ever went to when I was a really little girl, so it has a special place to me

New York - because there is no ambiance like it anywhere else (and I've traveled plenty) - it's raw, energetic and authentic.
San Fran - because it's beautiful and relaxed.
St.Petersburg - CULTURE, friends
Paris - architecture, ambiance, charm, food, friends
Antwerp - ambiance, BEER! FASHION!!
Amsterdam - ambiance, charm, beauty (if only they cleaned it up!)
Edinburgh - architecture, the atmosphere of antiquity.
I also love all European cities because they are not as restrictive as the US ones - I just feel freer in Europe (if I could only move* ).
P.S.* You know why I love this forum?* Because I don't have to explain that I'm talking about St.Petersburg in Russia, and not St.Petersburg in Florida*

I can't believe I forgot PRAGUE - so gorgeous, like walking through a fairy tale. I just wish it was less touristy.

Copenhagen - it's a great place to live...though I wouldn't mind a more mediterranean climate
Rome - Everything exudes history
London and New York - for the shopping, chicness and endless offers.
San Fran - liberal attitude and cos' its situated in such a beautiful area
Srinagar in Kashmir - breathtakingly beautiful, a heaven on earth untill the late 80ies when nuclear threat, kidnappings/decapitations, marshall law and general migration made it just the opposite. I thought I would do like the old moguls when I got old..go to Srinagar to be closer to heaven just before I died...Such beauty such waste.
