Fifty Shades of Grey
Has anybody been reading these books?

I´m in the middle of the second one of the trilogy. It´s definitely NOT great literature, but you get hooked, that´s definite.

I heard about the books being porn or too kinky...well it´s not for children, it´s adult, it´s SM related, but it´s not the end of the world.

Anybody reading FIFTY?

Please keep spoilers in white writing please

Yep I finished reading all three books in June and I love it

yeah its not great lit. but the storyline got me hooked and i love the fact that the sex scenes are amusingly erotic, not in a cheap way.

but i have to say that, the 2nd and 3rd book are a bit disappointing when compared to the first book. the first one is much more exciting and full of twists. whats more, i dont find the plot too original, its all so similar to Meyer's Twilight saga--big family full of attractive people (the Greys), adopted siblings, kids, Grey's overprotective-ness (just like Edward in Twilight) and so on...

to conclude, its still a good read.

^ The reason you find the plot similar to that of the Twilight saga is because 50 Shades of Grey was originally a Twilight fan fiction that the author changed a few names around in before having it published.

I read enough of the book to know I would never read the whole thing, but this website is great for those of you like me who find the series slightly ridiculous - http://50shadesofsuck.tumblr.com/

I read the series at the beginning of this year and enjoyed them. For me they are really enjoyable contemporary romances with some kinky elements.

I personally don't see them as adult twilight books, even though the series started as fan fiction. Most books have things in common with other books if you only look for it.

I don't get why people feel the need to mock readers who like the books. Sometimes I like a book, sometimes I don't. But I never feel the need to make fun of books I didn't like or the readers who enjoy them.

i read this ever hearing the craze in the US. the fisrt book was interesting however after the first one the book lacked extreme depth and was very repetitive.

exactly my thought.

i only bought the first book at the beginning and the book got me addicted. So i went out and bought the other two. However, the 2nd/3rd books are kinda disappointing and lack of 'attrative' elements.

Anyway, I don't get that hate for this book People don't have to be so mean like this TBH

^Is the movie actually happening now or is it still rumored? I don't see her as Ana at all.

I've read about 95% of the first book. I don't know why I can't bring myself to finish the last 20 pages.:/

The book isn't terrible, but the writing is SO repetitive that it just gets boring after a while.
I found myself thinking, "oh they're having sex AGAIN...what a shocker!" "Oh, he's spanking her again...meh."

I've just read better sex scenes in other books, in which the story isn't only about sex (e.g., Outlander by Diana Gabaldon).
If it's constant, non-stop sex, it takes away from the eroticism, in my opinion.

And there's no way Emma Watson would do 50 Shades of Grey. It's just a rumor. I think those involved in producing the film just like to throw out rumors to get press for the film.

I honestly don't see these books being made into films (at least not ones worth watching), unless they get some seriously good filmmakers/screenwriters attached.
And I mean REALLY good. They need someone to transform the story into something watchable and that doesn't resemble straight up pornography.

^I think a movie could be good if the writers concentrate on Grey´s issues, make it about character development and less about sex (which I think the book is lacking).

Does anyone find that this story plot is kinda similar to a movie called "Secretary"? Even the male leading role's surname is Grey.

Anyway, I really hope Emma's not going to play Ana, I don't think she has the vibe at all.

^imo not really, other than both deal with bdsm... in Secretary, Maggie´s character was very much into the scene while Ana is only into the kinky sex part of it, which imo is not exclusive of the bdsm world.

I've never read this series, but they are taking too long with the movie. By the time it comes out, the entire series will have been out for years and people will have lost interest. And it's going to be difficult to find respectable actors willing to perform this kind of material. Emma Watson? I really don't think she'd go that far. If she didn't even want to do a mild sex scene for a Sofia Coppola film, I can't see her going anywhere near this.
