i have never watched the show and am tuning in tonight thanks to that hot OMG commercial.

Narrated through the eyes of the omniscient yet unseen character called "Gossip Girl" (voiced by Kristen Bell), this inconspicuous person runs a popular gossip commentary blog which holds the attention of all major characters on the show as she brings up-to-the-minute talk about the Upper East Side social scene. Blake Lively portrays Serena van der Woodsen, the former It girl who, a time before the show's beginning, had suddenly left Manhattan for a boarding school of her own accord for reasons unknown, thereby straining relations with her best friend, Blair Waldorf (Leighton Meester). Blair was hurt by her friend's departure but feels liberated when she finds that she is suddenly the new Queen Bee in their circle of friends, a position that she relishes, along with her boyfriend, Nate Archibald (Chace Crawford). Nate is conflicted about life and struggles with family issues including a father with a drug habit and mother in denial about the cracks forming in her perfect world. Fueling his inner demons is his childhood friend, Chuck Bass (Ed Westwick). Cynical and morally bankrupt, Chuck walks on the wild side of life and is at first seen as not above abusing others to serve his own needs. However, all this changes when he falls hard for Blair, his best friend's girlfriend.
When Serena returns from her self-imposed exile (as first reported by "Gossip Girl"), she finds herself excluded from her old crowd after her former betrayals come to light but she soon finds an ally in Dan Humphrey (Penn Badgley), an outsider in her privileged world. Thrust into a society where their financial and social status do not match that of their contemporaries by their former rock star father turned art gallery owner, Rufus Humphrey (Matthew Settle), Dan and his younger sister Jenny Humphrey (Taylor Momsen) struggle to find a niche in their new environment. Rufus is struggling to reconcile with his estranged wife and also has a secret history with Serena's mother, socialite Lillian van der Woodsen (Kelly Rutherford), who was once a groupie.


The show is also awash with secondary characters such as Isabel Coates (played by Nicole Fiscella) and Kati Farkas (Nan Zhang). The loyal deputies of Blair, Isabel and Kati are nonetheless in awe of Serena. Vanessa Abrams (Jessica Szohr) is Dan's best friend, who just so happens to be in love with him. Other important recurring characters in the series are Eleanor Waldorf (played by Florencia Lozano in the pilot episode, then by Margaret Colin afterward), Blair's fashion designer mother; Howie "The Captain" Archibald (Sam Robards), Nate's strict and abusive father (who also has a cocaine addiction); Serena's troubled younger brother, Eric van der Woodsen (Connor Paolo), whose problems finally incite her to come home; and Bart Bass (Robert John Burke), Chuck's father.

Season 1
The season has mostly revolved around Dan and Serena's relationships and the problems that occur, considering that Dan is against the glitz and glamour of the Upper East Side and is smitten with a girl that runs that part of town. Serena's sudden return from exile prompts rumors among the Upper East Siders and strains the friendship she had with Blair Waldorf which turns her into an outsider. Also, Nate and Blair's on-again off-again relationship; the complicated love triangle of best friends, Nate and Chuck, both vying for the affection of Blair that begins mid-season. Eventually, Nate wins, and Blair and Chuck are over, with Chuck also claiming to be over Blair. When Nate finds out about Blair and Chuck's past fling, everyone turns against her, leaving her with no one to console with but Serena. Blair is faced with more problems when Chuck Bass tips off Gossip Girl that Blair had cheated on Nate. Everyone in the Upper East Side eventually finds out that it was Chuck who had slept with her right before Blair slept with Nate. Blair tries to flee to France to go to her father's and boarding school but Serena stops her and says she will fight with Blair until the conflict is solved. Subplots include the romance between Serena's mother Lily and Dan's father Rufus, and Dan's younger sister Jenny trying to make it among the popular kids, as well as Serena's brother Eric's stay in a treatment center on his mother's orders.

First, a little exclusive casting news: The CW confirms that Lydia Hearst (heiress of William Randolph Hearst and daughter of Patricia Hearst) will be guest starring in the season finale of GG. She plays Amelia, an interior designer for Bart and Lily’s apartment and has a “moment” with Chuck Bass. (Oooh, she had better hope Queen B doesn't see!)

The Devious and Delicious: Chuck and Blair
OMFG, indeed! If you've been rooting for devious and delicious Blair and Chuck (Bluck? Chair?) ever since their winter burlesque-bar rendezvous (hot enough to wilt iron!), you'll be pleased to hear what sources tell me: Nate will be moving on with another girl (see below), clearing the way for what looks to be some blossoming Bluck bliss. They continue to "dance around each other" as the season continues, says one source, "and it looks like they're getting together." OMFG Yay!

Of course, the one very serious hurdle they'll have—at least for now—is that Blair and Chuck's parents, Lily and Bart, are engaged to be married, which makes them step-siblings-to-be. (And soon to be living together.) But just ask Brothers & Sisters: Questionable incest is all the rage this season! (Ewww...)

The Goody (Cheap) Shoes: Nate and Vanessa
According to sources, Nate is conjuring up a little somethin'-somethin' with Vanessa, and something tells me this pairing may be sorta awesome...She's much more in line with his high moral compass than Blair is, and given recent financial woes Nate's father went through, they can bond about being in a lower economic bracket. This could be wuuuuuve!

The Scandalous Staple: Serena and Dan
S and D are going strong, but they won't be without scandal...Sources tell me that Trachtenberg's character, Georgina Sparks, will try to make a sex tape of Serena—without her knowledge. "She's coming back to say, 'You can't forget about me, and I'm gonna ruin your lives a little bit,'" Michelle says of her character. Sounds like G and Heidi Montag would be fast friends!
