Exactly. I have a very clear idea in my head of what Serena should look like from reading all the books. I think my ideal Serena was undoubtably influenced by my obsession with Vogue and models!

yeah, Serena is the only one I have problems with. If she is supposed to become a model later on, shouldn't she look like one? I always pictured the girl who used to be in the Delia's catalogs a few years ago Also, her personality seems different than in the books. I thought she was supposed to be really confident or something.

I actually thought that Blake Lively would be a great pick, even before the cast was announced.

It's obvious they structured this show to be The OC 2.0. At the CW press conference, Dawn Orstoff even said, "This show is going to do to NYC what The OC did to Orange County." (paraphrased)

Blair seems to be a mix between Alexis Bledel and Rachel Bilson. Which is funny, cause Bledel is a former CW actress and Bilson is on the OC.

There are lots of pretty people in this cast. They don't look nearly as attractive in photos, imo, but they look good in motion.

As for the casting of Blake Lively - while looks do count, talent counts a lot more. I would rather have a pretty, talented actress than a stunning, wooden actress in the role of Serena. Also, from my experience, it's much easier to act snobby and superior (like Blair's character) than to be free and outgoing (like Serena) without overdoing the happiness. Too many actresses overact when they try to be happy/carefree. And Blake's resume includes Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, where she played a character who was happy, outgoing, carefree, champion (soccer) and she pulled it off without being campy.

Anyway, I can't wait to see this show! It's going to be fun 'cause I used to read the series when I was younger. And rich, snobby socialites? You know they're going to have good style! (at least, I hope the show has a good stylist. The OC had very good styling, imo).
