I think there is definitely a lot to explore - good girl/bad girl archetypes, the adaptation of classic literature into modern television, heck - wardrobe/semiotics/color theory. YES.

BTW, I got an A on the paper I wrote about Gossip Girl My professor loved it but he thought it was bold of me to my hypothesize that the show makes young people re-think and doubt the importance of materialistic values...Does that mean he watches the show?
Congrats on your paper getting an A. If only you could write for the show. Cause certainly the writers seem more intent on pulling every cliches and Gary Sue moment out of the book than doing original thoughtful writing (unless that plot happens to be the C plot, then it will be creative and unique...and drive the Chuckistans to new lengths of crazy).

I think Charlie became a regular because Jessica and Taylor are gone, or at least, very significantly reduced. It's too bad because Nate never gets a storyline yet all the guests stars do.

I wouldn't worry about Dair not happening. Given that it was the only thing that was universally praised this season (whereas Chair and Abusegate were only loved by the Gossip Girl Reality Index), I don't think the writers will abandon it that quickly. Especially given that was all Josh Schwartz tweeted for weeks on end. (And Bart150, a producer on the show, is pro-Dair. Not to mention, the ratings grew steadily during the Dair arc, but then collapsed when SuperChuck! and Chair happened.)

At any rate, I'm haven't watched the show since 4.20. After much internal debate, I've decided I'll youtube Dair. And on tumblr still post reblog my favorite Dair picspams and/or season 1-4 Blair/Serena fashion, but I'm not watching the show next season. My feminist principles might be very grey, but I'm I am not going to let Safran tell me what I saw wasn't/isn't abuse. (And the abuse was happening well before Chuck smashed the glass above Blair's head.)

Jessica Szohr on Leaving Gossip Girl

Jessica Szohr is leaving Gossip Girl, but she's not too sad about saying goodbye to the CW series.

In fact, the actress tells me that after years of playing Vanessa Abrams on the small screen, she was ready to move on.

So what's next for Jess? And who will she stay in touch with from the cast, who includes her former boyfriend Ed Westwick?

"When I started the fourth season, I kind of had a talk with the producers," she told me this week at SoBe's Try Everything party in NYC. "We didn't know what we were going to do with the characters. After playing someone for four years, it can be a little repetitive. So I was ready for a change."

Basically, she felt she had done all she could with the character, saying:

"I had so much fun and I made friends I'll have for a lifetime and it was so great to work in the city, but I got the most I could out of Vanessa."

But she says she's still keep in contact with some people more than others.

When I asked her if she thought she'd stay in touch with the cast, she replied: "Probably the people I'm closest to."

Wonder if having to work with the guy she split with had anything to do with decision to move on to other projects?

It sounds like her primary focus will be on the big screen going forward.

"I have two movies that I start in August and July and I have a couple movies coming out in the next couple months," she told me of her post Gossip plans.

But she's making time for fun, too.

"I'm gonna take a trip with all my girlfriends," she told me. "I'll probably go to the Hamptons a few times."

Just probably not the same weekend Ed Westwick is going, we'd imagine.

I've noticed this season had the most blatant product placement ever, I mean I get it, its in the business. Especially with Gilt!

I kind of like Michelle Trachtenberg, I think she looks great on screen, maybe I am just nostalgic for Harriet the Spy, I loved that movie when I was a kid.

This show has never been subtle about the product placement though. It was less noticable in seasons 1-2 because the storylines were better. Although it has also become more frequent.

And it's not just isolated to Dair. Every character does his or her share of spouting "I love this product" speeches. (Or if the writers are feeling "clever," the characters will bitch about said products instead.)

Good news department: The first pictures from filming last year were on July 5th, so we only have a month or so until we can start looking for the new stuff!! And they went to Paris to start last year, so maybe it will be even sooner if they are in NY...

usually it premieres around September doesn't it?

22 episode seasons with a couple of lengthy hiatuses in between means there's never really an unbearably long wait for new eps

BUT!! Having way too much time on my hands (and OCD), I checked for Season Three in 2009, and they started filming on June 29th!! So I stand by my original 'count the days' philosophy...!
