I think it's just how they air tv shows in the US. They have to make shows last up until May, hence the breaks.

^ Yes, but this is much worse than the other networks! I have read that the people who run the CW Network are far from highly respected within the industry... it seems very counter-productive to take what was their flagship show, constantly mess up the schedule giving everyone an understandable chance to lose interest, and then endlessly mention how ratings aren't good! I mean, what would you expect!!?

Maybe this will help some of us!

As first reported by Variety Wednesday, CW is going to begin streaming series including The Vampire Diaries and Gossip Girl just eight hours after their debut on linear TV.

'Gossip Girl' Will Likely End After a Short Season 6 ()

Gossip Girl fans will be disappointed to learn that the show will likely end after a shortened sixth season. Sources close to the show blame falling ratings for the show's demise.
TheWrap.com explains that the show will return for a shortened season similar to the CW drama, One Tree Hill, did for its last season. The site claims to have gotten the news from a source that is "close to production."The show's ratings have steadily been declining over the course of season 5, with current ratings averaging a measly 1.7 million viewersódown from 2.35 million in the show's first season.
Fans have likely been turned off by the show's lack of drama. The fifth season has been quite stale, with the same storylines being replayed repeatedly, with only the key roles being changed. Whether it's a Blair/Chuck/Louis love triangle or a Blair/Dan/Chuck love triangle, it's really the same story, isn't it?
The show seems to have been on a downward spiral since the crew finished high school. It seems as if the show's creators had no real "adult plans" for the characters, and fans tired of the high school type drama played out every week on the show.
TheWrap.com thinks the renewal has less to do with finishing the story, but more to do with finishing contracts. The show's big stars are all under contract for another season and a short season 6 will spare the network the cost of severing ties.

^^^ Hopefully, that will give them less opportunity to screw up Dan & Blair. I'm sure Chair is endgame, but still. I'm glad they're going to get another season at least to wrap it up, instead of being canceled abruptly due to the ratings which I was always afraid would happen, without giving them a chance for closure.

Did they actually say how many eps there would be. Usually it's 13. I think that will be enough time to wrap it up.

I actually miss the show. It feels like April is ages away.

A 6th season, even a shorter one is too much. They should have ended it this year.

Some new interviews. Possibly Spoilery. I whited out the spoilers, so highlight if you want to see the responses.

Spoiler Chat Daily (March 30)

Danielle: Iím so far past bored with Blair and Humdrum Humphrey right now. Any Chuck-Blair news to keep me interested?

Will you take one half of that pairing and just accept our Gossip Girl scoop on Chuck Bass? You will? How nice of you! Josh Safran tells us that Chuckís (Ed Westwick) journey for the rest of the season is all about his family. ďWith Bart [Bass], since he died in season two, we brought him back as a ghost in flashbacks, so thatís in our wheelhouse,Ē he says. ďWith Jack [Bass], itís fun to have Desmond, especially after last year when he and Chuck banded together and made their relationship as right as they could. Itís fun to have him back this year on Chuckís side. And Chuckís storyline very much is about family so thatís why you will be seeing more of Jack.Ē

Whatís ahead for Dan and Blair? Will they be happy for a while?
For us itís been about, we knew we were going to tell the story that Blair has always wanted to be a princess, way back in season one, ever since she was a child, sheís wanted to be a princess. So now that that lifelong dream is gone, sheís able to step back and go, ďWow, that dream is over so whatís my next dream, who am I going to be next?Ē Itís really allowing her to come into her own and grow in a great way, with Dan by her side, is someone who has always accepted that growth in her. Her relationship with Chuck has always been fraught with a little bit of antagonism, itís been sexy and also they tried to be there for each other but then things get in the way. And here she finally has a guy who is like, you go off and do what you need to do and Iíll be here. Itís fun to see when she comes back into her own. We have a storyline thatís coming up, thatís one of my favorite storylines ever in all five seasons for Blair. And I think the fans are really going to love. Itís pure vintage Blair.

Do you know the endgame for Blair and the others romantically?
Right now weíre only looking at endgame for this season because thatís how we are approaching it. I donít want to say there is an answer because right now there isnít actually a question. Blair is with Dan and thatís what it is. But itís more about what happens when, Dan and Blairís relationship is going to be challenged because the specter of Chuck is always going to be hanging over it, whether or not heís even involved in it or not. Because Blair is always going to be aware that Dan knows how much she loved a man before him. And Dan is always going to be aware, even more so, of how tied up they were with each other and how they constantly return to each other at some point, invariably every year. That pressure might seep in and cause some trouble but whether that trouble is insurmountable people will have to wait and see.

Sorry. When I white words, they usually don't show up. At any rate, they aren't as clear to read so if you want to remain spoiler free, just don't take a hard look at any of the white wording.

From TVFanatic:

The Upper East Side will never be the same.

Speaking with TV Fanatic this afternoon, Gossip Girl executive producer Joshua Safran promised that the May 14 season finale culminates in a major cliffhanger that "changes the fabric of the show forever" and that fans will "realize without a doubt" the ensuing narratives it sets up for next fall ... with one possible exception.

"There's one particular character, you might not know what happens to them," he teased.

He wouldn't say who, or what the unifying storyline of this spring might be, but he did promise me there is one: "All the [storylines] that have continued through the royal wedding are going to land in the same place," he said. "Starting this Monday, you're going to see everything start to come together."

No small feat, considering the number of balls in the air at the moment.

There's Serena, who's been relegated to the back burner for much of this winter, but who's about to begin an intriguing new arc, and who the as-yet-untitled season finale episode "revolves around quite heavily."

With Jack (Desmond Harrington) and Diana (Elizabeth Hurley) set to return, "doors are opened that Chuck was not expecting to be opened," Safran said. "Things happen that change his perspective on who he is."

Several Upper East Siders will be looking to show Ivy the door, meanwhile, while It-Girl-in-waiting Lola (Ella Rae Peck) has no interest in the high society world she was unknowingly born into.

"So much of what we've done over the years has involved outsiders trying to break into this world ... now we have both somebody on the inside in Ivy who doesn't really belong, and Lola, who wants nothing to do with it," Safran added, cryptically noting that the Rhodes girls "may or may not be drawn together by a common bond."

There's also the minor matter of Dan and Blair, a.k.a. Dair.

The fact that Dair has become the most polarizing topic in Gossip Girl history isn't lost on its show-runner, who again insisted there is no "endgame" regarding the couple ... not that he'd tell us if there were.

"People always talk about endgames, but the thing is, if you have have a firm ending set in stone, everything you write runs into that wall," Safran said. "It has to be done with a shifting, malleable approach."

Sorry fans, I tried.

In the short term, we can still expect "the specter of Chuck" to continue looming over the new couple, he adds, with Dan possibly having "a hard time coming to terms with the stresses that brings."

At the same time, Dan "will continue help Blair rediscover Blair in a very sweet, good way," the EP reminded us, noting that she's finally broken the parameters of her relationships with Chuck and Louis.

Safran says Dan and Blair becoming a couple was the plan all season long, too.

"Last spring was the tease," he admitted. "We knew Dan and Blair were going to get together at some point this season, as Dan's feelings for her would only grow, and Blair would grow more aware of them."

"Blair gave up her control, her power in becoming a princess. Now that dream is over, for better or worse, and she's finally breaking free and finding out who she is. And from the beginning, Dan was the one basically saying 'I'll be here always, I accept whoever you are.'"

Currently filming the 24th and final episode of the fifth season, with the 18th airing Monday, Safran says fan backlash (or feedback in general) hasn't shaped any storylines because it logistically can't.

Not that he's unaware of the passions he's stirred in recent months.

"Say anything you want about me, it's my job, but please respect each other!" he joked, calling for civility among the respective camps as the show ramps up for its long-awaited spring run.

Wishful thinking, perhaps. But a nice sentiment.
I also trying to locate the interview, but in it Safran implies that who Blair chooses as her endgame partner will be clear THIS season finale but we won't be handed the cards as to why until next season.
