Dogville - this is one of Von Trier's films that I hadn't yet seen. It's experimental, to say the least, but the acting - as it is in most of his films - is stupendous. It's a long film but I found that John Hurt's narration really drew me in, and I stopped noticing that there was essentially no scenery. Lots of (moral?) questions at the end, but what an apocalyptic finale. I found the use of Bowie's "Young Americans" against historical photos to be arresting in its power. Indeed, I was kind of stunned and am still thinking about the film.[/QUOTE]

Dogville is one of my all time favorite movies. It is simply brilliant and the theme of the movie is right on! Warmly recommend it!

Yeah, I don't get that either. It's a touching story, but it's still a kinda average movie.

^ Pfffft... found the Notebook to be downright maudlin. Not a fan of that film at all.

Silver Linings Playbook - it was good. The darker aspects of the film - mental illness - balanced the more playful ones and made it a better piece of work than it would've been otherwise. I really like how the tension was amped up in some of the scenes - "the wedding video" one, the one in front of the theatre with the kids, the one right before/after the dance. It reminded me a little bit of an even more offbeat RomCom/dramady from years back, called Punch-drunk Love. I thought Jennifer Lawrence really did shine in this film, but for me, her performance in Winter's Bone was better pound-for-pound and more deserving of an Oscar. DeNiro was touching in the one scene in which he opened up to his son; Jacki Weaver was consistent and believable; and overall I thought Bradley Cooper was quite good. The supporting cast was strong too. Well acted, interesting story - definitely worth a look. The ending felt a bit pat for me though, but that's often the case with romantic comedies.

The Bling Ring
It was so bad.
Only good thing about this movies was Leslie Mann´s character.
She was funny.
And the scene where they robbed Audriana Patridge´s home was well done.
That´s it. Sofia Coppola is overrated.

I did not even wanna see this movie but life happens and now I will never ever get those 1 hour and 30 minutes back.

Oldboy
This was good!
