Step Up (2006)

I'm actually surprised at how much I liked this movie

Lovelace - very good performances by Amanda Seyfried, in particular, Peter Sarsgaard and Sharon Stone. Even Juno Temple and Adam Brody were good but their parts are very small. I think the story/script needed a bit more coherence and development. For example, I would've liked to see a little more about her life after the whole "Deep Throat" extravaganza; that's given short shrift here. And I would've liked to know a little bit more about what happened in her life before that breakthrough too; what caused her to allow herself to be controlled by that awful Chuck Traynor initially? Seyfried captures Lovelace's shyness and insecurity well, but it's the script that needs more, er, fleshing out imo. It's still a good film, but I think it had the potential to be great. I am kind of thinking of reading her biography because I am curious now. I watched "Inside Deep Throat" which gives a lot of background information on the porn industry explosion in the 70s, and the feminist reaction against it, but still. I am curious as to why and how people get involved in that industry. Now, it's probably largely about money. But back then, I am not sure that was always the case. Apparently a lot of people felt they could break into mainstream film by doing underground films first.

Anyhow, it was worth the watch, mainly for the performances, which were honest and intense.

Come and See-My second time watching it and it's just as powerful as the first time. Beautifully made and definitely a must-see, but it is very emotionally draining.

Born Yesterday (1950)... so good! And so feminist, actually.

The Impossible

It's about the 2004 tsunami, based on a true story.
Good movie but really sad because these things actually happened to people in real life so I found it a bit difficult to watch.

Mala Noche - pretty unflattering if you're a fan of recent Gus Van Sant films.

7 days. The most violent revenge film I've seen so far.
