never saw the original version but i can guarantee the American one is gonna be crap and they'll end up taking it off the air in less than a year just like they did with Coupling. There's something about British sense of humor that is only hilarious when it's done by British people and just plain pathetic when done by Americans.

I've watched both and they are very different...and I actually love them both

And has anyone seen Ricky Gervais' new show Extras on HBO?! It's hilarious!

^ I don't live in the UK but have heard so much about that show. I wish I lived in the UK.

I love Steve Carell (star of "The Office") even before "The 40 Year-Old Virgin" but no matter how many times I try to sit down and watch it, it is just not appealing to me. Which is such a shame since it's so critically loved but sinks in terms of ratings. I actually live the television on mute so I could count as a viewer. That is how low the ratings (and the network ratings) are and how high my sympathy for them geninuely is.

You think NBC would have provided some kind of safety valve for when "Fraiser" and "Friends" would leave?!

This show is getting a lot funnier than it was when it started out. Good for them. But a couple of times, like when I watch Family Guy, I get really offended and can't laugh at a particular joke.

This show is like Office Space, in that it has to grow on you... I saw a snipette earlier this week of all the people at the office exchanging gifts, and one of the guys put an old piece of clothing in a plastic bag as his last minute gift. Some moments on this show are just classic. I totally fall for humor like that.

YES! The Christmas episode was hilarious! I actually watched it twice (once by myself and once with my husband)

OMG! so glad there's a thread!

i LOVE LOVE LOVE the original Office
Gervais and Merchant are freakin' brilliant! Gervais' writing is superb and Merchant's direction is absolutely amazing.

The characters Dave, Gareth, Tim, Dawn, Big Keith, Neil and oh crap - i forgot the name of Dave's obnoxious yet funny friend (y'know: "while you're there luv") are simply perfect together!! Take one out and it just would not work.

The first time i heard him sing at the workshop i thought: wow - he does have a good voice.. so i looked up his 80's band - you must see the pic... he's a pretty boy. i'll take a look-see and post it.

The first couple of times i watched it - i didn't really get it
but after a couple of views - OMG! understood and got the humour.

The special is amazing - they take the balance of intense discomfort and downward spiral and then, the sunshine breaks in.... without being obvious.. and the ending with Dawn & Tim ALWAYS makes me CRY!

i've watched one episode of the american version, and i just don't like it. boo.

I don't understand why they can't just air the orginal version over here in the US. Are we that unwilling to accept a British accent?!

hmmmm... i dunno. i don't have cable so we just bought the DVD set after renting it from Blockbusters. It does take some getting used to... if i had seen it on TV i'm not sure if i would have watched it all... it took 2 episodes on the DVD set to get me hooked. Also, my husband was raised in England - he had to help me understand some of the jokes, and some of them i still pick up after watching it so many times. It's amazing the mix of obvious humour and subtle humour.
