Are you a poet, and do you know it?
Apparently I am, but don't like to show it?
To start off a poem by Derek Walcott, who won a nobel prize for his contributions to literature! Love after Love...
Quote:
Love after love
The time will come
when, with elation
you will greet yourself arriving
at your own door, in your own mirror
and each will smile at the other's welcome,
and say, sit here. Eat.
You will love again the stranger who was your self.
Give wine. Give bread. Give back your heart
to itself, to the stranger who has loved you
all your life, whom you ignored
for another, who knows you by heart.
Take down the love letters from the bookshelf,
the photographs, the desperate notes,
peel your own image from the mirror.
Sit. Feast on your life.
Yep, this a place to share your poetry, when there are enough veiws of this thread, I will post one of my own, if there is enough interest. Untill then, well just see what we have here.
Lord Byron Still one of my favorites from high school english.
She walks in beauty, like the night
Of cloudless climes and starry skies;
And all that 's best of dark and bright
Meet in her aspect and her eyes:
Thus mellow'd to that tender light
Which heaven to gaudy day denies.
One shade the more, one ray the less,
Had half impair'd the nameless grace
Which waves in every raven tress,
Or softly lightens o'er her face;
Where thoughts serenely sweet express
How pure, how dear their dwelling-place.
And on that cheek, and o'er that brow,
So soft, so calm, yet eloquent,
The smiles that win, the tints that glow,
But tell of days in goodness spent,
A mind at peace with all below,
A heart whose love is innocent!
Ooh! I love poetry! :P
I thought I'd start with a little love poem I wrote to my city...
Ode to the City Part One
You are slush
and mush and a mess
a delightful dirty mess
of emotion and confusion and insanity
the moving confusing
swirling
blasting combusting whoosh
of people
Part Two
These pink plaster pueblos
of Kleenex boxes and
sweaters with kittens and
smiling children of indiscriminate origin
and houses with painted shutters
and long stretches of nothingness
and crickets
Make me long for you

spiraling blasting combusting, whoosh, of people
That bit sticks in my mind most of all.
Thanks. There are some parts I'm not so fond of now, but I like that bit as well...
