LOL, that is true. the Downtown of my area IS cute, but there's not much to do! It's all high-end restaurants! I prefer LG's downtown for casual walking, IMO.

More from my home area, since meomix started for me.

from a winery up in the hills where they host weddings, concerts...etc...

the view from that winery - someone's wedding is obviously being held...

the house on a property from the same place as the picture that meowmix posted...

the pool at the high school

this next set is from more of meowmix and I's area in general, well it's one particular area that most everyone adores...

there really aren't that many pictures around of my home city, but there are pictures of my home AREA (Bay Area)...

lol i hated that winery. we had grad there and what really bothered me was i kept thinking the building was 'off' like crooked or something.
great pic of santana row... i love how none of the bay area actually looks like that. i really wish they would expand it though...like tear down the winchester mystery house cuz it scares me anyway

I love that winery - I went there for one of the best concerts I've ever attended - The Corrs. My grad was at my school, as it always is. We don't get anywhere REALLY pretty for grad but we do get really nice venues for prom and other dances.
I love Santana Row (and Valley Fair, and Stanford, and SF for shopping as well)...and Santana just still seems a little "random" to me (the Bay Area looks more residential than that - that looks like...New Orleans/New York/somewhere else to me...) ...the winchester creeps me out, too. I've been there once - not fond of a place with doors that open to like, 4 story drops and doors that open to nothing...

More Kansas City (from my own camera!)

Westport branch library (when I lived in Westport, this was my home away from home!)

Sidewalk sale on Westport road, near Loma Vista Hardware.

Hyde Park Historic District. 37th & Walnut. "Shirtwaister" foursquare houses.

The old Katz drugstore on the corner of Westport & Main.

Madrid Theatre, 38th & Main. I used to live directly across the street from this joint!

Commissioned graffiti art...this artist did a lot of work in the Westport and downtown area.

Here's where my husband and I used to live when we first moved to Kansas City. The yellow car is ours. 38th & Main

And here's where we lived just before we got our house. 37th & Warwick.

My whole Westport Photo Album can be found here.

Now to my current stomping grounds, the Old Northeast.

Here's how the houses look in my neighborhood...low and symmetrical, with minor variations in trim and finish. Some may have been kit houses from Sears & Roebuck or Montgomery Wards. This street was the site of an amusement park from 1989-1912, and was redeveloped as residential following WWI. Most houses here are from the early-mid 1920s.

Almost all of the signs in the neighborhood are bilingual. Independence & Benton.

Some are tri-lingual or more. St. John Ave.

Our shopping plazas are peculiarly picturesque. Independence & Van Brunt.

Another idiosyncratic commercial block. Independence Ave.

Sidewalk tiles on the corner of Gladstone Blvd. and Paseo Blvd.

If you look up and directly across the street from those tiles, you see the famous Gladstone Blvd/Kessler Park pergola.

Marvelously funktacular house on Benton Blvd.

Closer view of their mad porch pillar.

Teeny-tiny Mexican restaurant. There are 8 barstools. Their refried beans and spicy rice are very, very tasty and supercheap! Independence Ave.

Mayfair Drycleaners. I reckon they've had this sign since the early 1950s. Independence Ave.

Looking toward my house.

Thank you! I like it...very low-key and kind of old-fashioned. Neighbors still talk to one another and the kids play outside free-range style!

In the favorite's section there is a thread on " What is your favorite city?" It's not the same concept but there are a lot of beautiful pictures there too.
