From ontd_football:

Quote:
The UEFA Control and Disciplinary Body has made a number of decisions relating to Real Madrid CF's match at AFC Ajax on 23 November, issuing several fines and suspensions.

Following the opening of disciplinary proceedings concerning the improper conduct of Real Madrid CF coach José Mourinho and players Xabi Alonso, Sergio Ramos, Iker Casillas and Jerzy Dudek during the UEFA Champions League Group G game against AFC Ajax in Amsterdam on Tuesday 23 November, the UEFA Control and Disciplinary Body dealt with the case today and decided the following:

The Spanish club's coach José Mourinho has been suspended from coaching activities for two UEFA club competition matches, of which the second is deferred for a probationary period of three years. He was also fined €40,000.

Players Xabi Alonso and Sergio Ramos were fined €20,000, Iker Casillas was fined €10,000 and Jerzy Dudek was fined €5,000. The red cards given to Alonso and Ramos stand, and they have therefore been suspended for one UEFA club competition match.

The Control and Disciplinary Body has decided to fine Real Madrid CF €120,000.

An appeal may be lodged against the ruling within three days of the dispatch of the reasoning for the decision.

The Control and Disciplinary Body will publish tomorrow the outcome of the hearing held today in relation to the case against Romanian club CFR 1907 Cluj for the improper conduct of coach Sorin Cârţu during the UEFA Champions League Group E game against FC Basel 1893 in Basel on 23 November.
I think the punishment is a bit silly, really. The fines are a lot to a mere mortal like myself but it's probably doesn't mean much in the grand scheme of things for the footballers. Mourinho got what he wanted in the end anyway: Xabi and Sergio have clean slates and Mourinho only has to miss a meaningless group stage match next week. You can't really prove that what they did though especially with Casillas and Dudek.

I guess UEFA wanted to make an example of Real Madrid and deter other teams and players.

where you able to get his name, or, like los merengues, were you to mesmerized by the beauty of the barça game to know who was a real madrid player and who wasn't :p

getting back on topic.
let's see how far they get in the Champions. just like in la liga, they have only played decent teams (except for the second game against AC Milan which was one of the best so far. SUPER PIPPO!!!!)
once we get into the knock out stages things will get more difficult and exciting!

The draw for the round of 16 has been held with the following pairings as a result:

Roma vs Shaktar Donetsk
Milan vs Tottenham Hotspur
Valencia vs Schalke 04
Internazionale vs Bayern Munich
Lyon vs Real Madrid
Arsenal vs Barcelona
Marseille vs Manchester United
Copenhagen vs Chelsea

I support both Arsenal and Barcelona so I'm a little disappointed with that match up. I was really hoping that Arsenal would draw Schalke. That said, Arsenal is my number 1 team so I'm hoping that they can beat Barcelona.

I think Inter vs Bayern Munich will be a good match to watch.

I'm happy with Marseille for United, though Copenhagen would have been easier. Love the Arsenal draw, repeat of last year. They have NO chance. Barca have only gotten stronger!

i'll just leave that there.

i like to call it Messi vs Arsenal. 06.04.10
hat trick before half time and he wasn't even done yet.

my predictions
Roma vs Shaktar Donetsk W. Roma
Milan vs Tottenham Hotspur W. Tottenham
Valencia vs Schalke 04 W. Valencia
Internazionale vs Bayern Munich W. Bayern
Lyon vs Real Madrid W. Lyon
Arsenal vs Barcelona W. Barça
Marseille vs Manchester United W. OM
Copenhagen vs Chelsea W. Chelsea

i know that Real Madrid should win, but Lyon are their black beast, like we say in spanish, su bestia negra, and they can't seem to beat them in the champions. OM over Man U because my girlfriend is for OM, she roots for Barça, i support OM. good deal so far. of course it would be nice to see some smaller teams advance. Copenhagen could pull of the upset. Chelsea has been in a slump, but i expect them to be back in form by Feb.

CHAMPIONS LEAGUE! now it gets interesting.

BIB - so ****ing much. I mean it's bloody Spurs! I'm baffled by their form LoL.

I feel for Arsenal, dumped out of the CL again by a better team. They always get the toughest team to play against.

Where is the final this year being held??

It's not going to be a cakewalk for Spurs though. They'll have to work hard for a win. At least if Arsenal do get knocked out (trying to stay optimistic here!) it will be against arguably the best team in the world.

The final will be held at Wembley Stadium.

Oh I know. I'm really hoping Milan bring their A game. I mean there is something wrong if Spurs advance to the quarter finals and Arsenal.

Really? How funny would it be if there's no English team in the final?

^ To be honest, if Arsenal don't make it to the final I don't want to see any other English teams battling it out for the cup.

I'm so scared for Lyon - Real. We never managed to beat Lyon, I really hope this year is the lucky one.
