Hmm well i've lived in a couple of cities for a many years each, so here are my top faves:
San Francisco - House of Prime Rib downtown, Golden City Chinese on Irving, Miyagi's Sushi in Palo Alto San Diego - Spices Thai Cafe (I recommend the Spicy Mint Noodles :P) Niban Japanese (really cheap, pretty good), the top floor of the La Valencia hotel in La Jolla (mucho expensivo but really gooooooood eats and service) Los Angeles - C&O Italian at the end of Washington (HUGE portions, long wait, fun crowd) |

I'm not really into the trendy cool places. I like places where people are friendly, I can get good food, and everyone can just relax and not worry about being 'cool'.
I love a place on St. Marks called 'La Palapa'. Its real mexican, and sooooo good! We always have fun there. 'L'Orange Bleu' on Crosby and Broome is a fun place. Its Algerian, and they have these fantastically sexy gallic waiters that are so much fun! Every monday night they have live middle eastern music, and a bellydancer. Sometimes youcan't get service for twenty minutes or so, because the waiters are dancing around the restaraunt with her. But that's ok, because half of the customers are usually right up there with them! 'Luca Lounge' is down the street from my apartment, and they have the best pizzas. Really good salads as well. Their sangria is crap, and sometimes the waitresses are in their own little world, but its still great. 'Max' in the east village is also great food. Family style italian, I get so fat when I eat here! 'Johns' is another EV italian place that isn't bad. 'Planet Thai' in Williamsburg is soooo good! Its a bit trendy (I'm not a fan of the average Williamsburg resident-too many 'artistes' and 'hipsters' for my liking. Some nice people, but you have to weed your way through the throng of pretention to find them), but the chicken pad thai is awesome. 'Le Bonne Soupe' in midtown east. Cute little french bistro, with this wonderfully ecentric looking french girl in a red pleather dress and matching WWI pilots hat, who plays Edith Piaf songs on her accordion. Good fondue. 'Pastis' is probably the trendiest place I can tolerate. Its kind of retarded in that the place runs on pretention, but its fun to get a croque monsieur and laugh at all the people pretending to be 'sex and the city'. The waitstaff is quite nice once you get to know them. I have so many more, but I will leave itat that. |

Philadelphia, University City district.
[b]Abyssinia, 45th and Locust Sts. Ethiopian/Eritrean Excellent variety of vegetarian selections for all you "veggies" here. Place may not look like much inside or out, but, oh! the food is good. Prices modest. |

Philadelphia---
I think I've gone to nearly every restaraunt in my city, so this is what I think are the best. For deliciousl roll your sleeves up and chow on some good Crabs--- DiNardos. Steak--- and just steak--- The Prime Rib Other Seafood--- Bookbinders Sushi--- Hikaru, but I haven't checked out too many places in the city for that. Dessert--- Kansas City Prime has the best bread pudding you could imagine. hmmm... I could go on forever, but I leave it at this for now. OH and for a good cheesesteak some say Pat's and Gino's but I say Jim's on South Street. YUM!! Best Pizza, Lorenzo's on South Street. |

Some of my favorites...
Arthur's in Morris Plains, New Jersey - great steaks and hamburger, always crowded with a long wait though (may have a location in Hoboken too) Any Portuguese restaurant in the Ironbound section of Newark, New Jersey...food is to die for. Blue Water Grill in Manhattan (Union Square) - go for the Sunday brunch..the banana pancakes are delicious. Helena's in Manhattan (Lafayette St) - Tapas bar....tapas are good and they make the best cosmopolitans in the world (made with Bacardi Limon) Baccos in Manhattan (Soho) - great for basic Italian food |
