Maybe she needs to work on her evil cold-hearted Dragon Lady look? The evil-looking Asian look seems to be popular these days. She sort of had that look going on at Nanette Lepore Fall/Winter 2006/2007. Nanette Lepore ended up being one of her better-looking shows too.

A Charo sighting in NYC, 7/6/07

I saw Charo coming out of the Zara store on Lexington Avenue, across Blommie's, yesterday afternoon around 5:50 pm, as I was waiting for the Hampton Jitney with a couple of friends. I had my back turned to the store's entrance but for some serendipitous reason, I turned just in time to see her exiting the store with a girlfriend. My initial impression was that's a very tall and very pretty young girl until a split second later when the realization hit me that it was Charo Ronquillo...in the flesh and in New York City! She crossed the street with her friend, bought and ate a hotdog sandwich from the foodcart at the northeast corner of 59th and Lex, crossed the street again and went into H&M.

She looked very young without make up and was very curvy...not a skinny mini at all...no eating disorder for this girl fersure...which could be why she hasn't done a lot of runway work. She had on a black tee with a silver metallic print, gray skinny jeans and black flats. Her simple demeanor didn't scream "I'm a model", which could both be a good and bad thing.

You know how some tall girls have such presence when they walk around as private citizens that you tell yourself "she has got to be a model?" Charo didn't give that vibe at all. This all happened of course in a span of 5-10 minutes and she was about half a block away most of the time so take my impression of her with a grain of salt.

Lucky you! So taking into account that it took her at least 2 minutes to cross the street in both directions and order and pay for the food, she ate the hot dog in 3-8 minutes. That's pretty quick! Great account by the way.

Some Charo news... I was flipping through new magazines the other day when I was pleasantly surprised to see Charo's Triple 5 Soul ad in Swindle Magazine, issue #12. The perfect combination of coolness and heat for the month of July. Pics below (snapped and scanned by me).

Charo does indeed look like she could be running for the Queen of Catalogues which ain't such a bad gig. Liya Kebede after all started out doing catalogue work in Chicago.

I clicked and was like "YAY! A Filipina model!" but was saddened to see so much bitching in this thread. Too Asian, not working enough, needs to stay in NYC, etc. Can't people just be happy that she's young, gorgeous and has a job?

^ Really? I find this thread rather tame and peaceful and even cheery compared to some of the other model threads. You're right about the last part though and she's doing so much better than any of the other recent Filipina models. More Charo runway pics.... She looks fantastic here:
