Thats pretty much how it works in the US too no?? Take Halle Barry for example.. her caucasian mother told her as a girl she was black and she should know that eventhough she wasn't 100%.. the world would still treat her that way and she would have to learn to represent herself as such.. (or something like that.. I'm sure it was said better)

^It is sometimes. My whole family, other than a few of us (like me and my aunt), have reddish hair, very fair skin and bright green eyes- yet they all identify themselves as black, despite us all being very mixed.

i think its more becaue in brazil, thre are different standards for being "white" than here. it deals with social status, education level, and wealth, more than a european heritage... to brazilians, jessica alba is white...depending on who you talk to... obviously..looking at here.. she is not "half white" in american terms.

in brasil, being white has alot to do with social status.. and looking somewhat white... so some would say jessica alba is "white" there.. so she is not mixed like halle is...
