I think that is partly what Toxxic said - she came in at the right time, thus, she lasted.

Being in the right place at the right time is a huge part of success, and that certainly seems to have played a role in Gisele's current popularity. I think she's the biggest commercial model of late, but I don't know if that is necessarily meant to be equated with being the biggest supermodel? Either way I think she's big because of her timing, and the fact that she can suit both "high fashion" and more main stream things (VS, etc)
