lol, well most of the time when they don't advertise that it's a channeling editorial, or when it's not a reference to one of the 5 widely known style icons, you can be sure that the photographers, editors and stylists are still referring to something but most people wont see it. Not a big deal, it's just in the nature of fashion, in the nature of any cultural expression for that matter First ed which Kate did, which I've seen, aside from the Face eds, is an ed in Italian Vogue (92) where she's "playing" Keith Richards - and three other girls are representing the other stonesies (although I think Brian Jones was missing).

How about you PM a supporting cast moderator personally?

I think that article about Harpers Bazaar was just written by a dumb journalist who didn't do their research and somehow mistaked Gemma Ward for Kate.

I somehow doubt Bazaar would do two Bardot editorials straight after each other, or that Kate would do a Bardot-inspired shoot so soon after a Marilyn one.

I agree; and how true that everything simply draws upon what came before it. Nothing inherently wrong with that; it's quite fun to give a nod to an earlier decade or star on occasion. Sometimes, though, for whatever irrational reason it gets slightly irritating to hear magazines and fashion trumpet how modern and forward thinking they are when very little is ever really new and fresh, it is all an old idea with a new spin or a new editor deciding they just adore it all of a sudden. And at times it seems forced for a magazine to take on a classic movie or star and rehash them; the old magic is lost, you know? It just doesn't seem like a proper-- or authentic-- tribute. (lol, kind of like on Gilmore Girls how they used to make every pop culture reference possible fit into those 40 minutes.) Kate is Kate, none other; it is always more interesting for me to see her as her, with her own face and hair and personality, than as someone else.

As a side note, I've always seen more Bardot than Marilyn in her; hell, I've never seen Marilyn in her!
