The "Classic Black Bag"
I've heard that every woman should have a classic, medium-sized, black bag in her wardrobe.

I know, rules were made to be broken, but I can see that this has some sense in it (really versatile)

So I was wondering if you guys could give me some names (and maybe photos) of some classic black bags.

I'm interested in how they look in:
- Designer
- Moderately priced
- Afforadable

Chanel 2.55 in lamb

Also available in silver hardware

Not sure on exact price but it would be higher than the caviar leather version which is $1475

Is silver or gold hardware more "classic wardrobe staple" ?

It all depends on your style and especially jewellry, whether you wear yellow gold or silver/white gold/platinum.

it depends on what kind of jewerly you have
if you normally wear gold necklaces/rings/etc, gold hardware would be better.
if you wear more silver or platinum, silver hardware would be better

Prada - holds everything and has a lot of pockets so that I can find stuff. A little rigid in this photo, much better once worn in.

Dooney & Bourke Alto line $325 (comes in black too)

Btw, I should mention I'm not a subscriber to the basic black bag theory for day ... You can make a basic out of lots of things depending on your wardrobe ... One of the reasons why I'm a fan of seasonal color schemes. Say, for example, you had a color scheme of black/tan/red/white for a given season. You could conceivably have a bag in any of those colors and call it basic.

Kate Spade came out with a very nice black vachetta bag a few seasons ago called the Betsy Satchel.

It was very plain and sophisticaed.. and I even wanted it for myself for a long time.
