Wow! That's so funny I didn't notice that before lol. Well to each his own. I buy authentic and fakes - just not the hideous ones LOL!

I haven't read through this entire thread. Perhaps someone has already mentioned this, but does anyone find it odd that there are ads for FAKE bags at the top of this page???

WHAT a turn off.

This was just sold for $2,000!! Is the buyer extremely lucky or what? Or do they make knockoffs of the trunks too?

How much do those^^^ usually go for?

Hey all, i'm new here and was hoping one of you experts out there could help me out in spotting a fake Birkin. Any specific things i should look for? I have a chance of getting one but also hate imitations. Why not spend your money on something cheaper and original??? Anyway, i'd appreciate any words of wisdom. Thanks!

I saw this bag selling on Ebay and I was wondering if this is real? I checked on the LV website and it looks a quite different (one on site had shorter handles and strap hooks on the side, not front) and only showed it in blue. Does anyone know? Thanks!

Not much of an expert here but Im assuming its fake since theres only 7 colors on there and that tag thingy hanging off of it. Thats so sad $2000 for a few fake trunks And these bad bad people make fake of everything. You can even get a Louis Vuitton bra on Canal Street before the police come that is :P

^^ Im sure the trucks are fake!! The same colors are repareated too many times on one side. I kinda feel for the buyer for wasting $2000 if they are just tacky replicas.

I don't even know if vuitton make the trunks in multicolore - i didn't think they did.

I don't feel bad for the buyer - I'm pretty sure they wouldn't care if they were real or fake anyway, but who am i to say?

I don't think they are real anyhoo.

everyone has been saying how the fake bags are tacky and ppl that buy them are stupid and shoudn't do it. but i have a question, what about the middle to lower class people that can't affort 2000 dollars on a small purse but still would like to have something thats sorta high end and designer-ish? their best solution is to buy a replica. is it so wrong that they can't really afford a real one and can only resort to a fake one? i just like to know what ppl think about ppl in those situations

I understand where you are coming from, but I think it's silly to pretend to have an expensive bag, when people are going to notice it's a fake....Chances are people that can afford a 2,000 dollar handbag will notics yours is a fake, and they won't care. People need to stop trying to impress with their fake bags

cocomonkey,
I think that anyone who makes a fuss about fake bags being horrendous and disgusting and what not have too much time on their hands. LV is for those in good socioeconomic standing, and the reality is most people don't have the income to purchase LV. I just find it funny that people who have such damning opinions on fakes are usually those who CAN'T afford LV. As if they're in a position to make a judgement. Everyone whether rich or poor wants an LV bag for the same reason, to SHOW OFF. So if you want an LV bag but don't have the money to buy the original, get a fake. Normal people don't give a **** if you have a fake. And if anyone does notice you have a fake, who cares? Like I said, rich and poor people want an LV to show off. It's nothing more than a show-piece.

Crackdowns Aside, Counterfeits Galore
By Emily Holt

NEW YORK — It used to be that to find a knockoff Louis Vuitton handbag, all you had to do was jump in a cab to the corner of Broadway and Canal, hop out and quickly barter for the first fake Murakami in sight while the taxi waited.

These days, in light of the luxury goods industry’s enormous counterfeit crackdown, that same effort has moved off the streets and underground.

In the last six months, brands such as LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton have pumped up their legal pursuits against counterfeiters. And it’s clearly having an impact — walking along sparsely populated Canal Street Thursday, there was nary a fake Vuitton, Fendi, Gucci, Chanel or Dior bag in sight. The closest knockoffs hanging in stalls were striped Kate Spade and Marc Jacobs look-alikes, but none bore any logo or brand. Ironically, there was a tote resembling an “It” bag by Dooney & Bourke — against which Vuitton filed suit for trademark infringement of its Murakami design but was denied motion for a preliminary injunction.

Last month, LVMH successfully sued 29 Chinatown retailers selling counterfeit items, as a federal judge upheld the company’s claims of trademark infringement and ordered each to pay $16 million in statutory damages. Additionally, the judge ordered the vendors to relinquish all imitation bags and accessories. It could be a symbolic victory, though, since Vuitton still has to find the vendors involved, all of whom were identified as John Does in the motion.

Most shopkeepers in the area said they didn’t carry fake Vuitton bags. But the action hasn’t disappeared. Counterfeiters continue to sell fake Murakami and other Vuitton styles from buildings a few blocks from their stalls on Canal Street.

One vendor initially denied she had any fake Vuittons for sale, but her partner followed me out to the sidewalk and said she indeed had some on hand. I told her I was looking for a big Murakami-style bag, but all she offered were small purses or wallets. After calling her brother on her cell phone, she said if I waited five minutes he would bring them. Asked if I could see everything she had before committing to buy, she said, “Follow me.”

She led me to an office building two blocks away on Broadway. Signs outside advertised manicures and pedicures on offer. We went through an unmarked door and went down in the elevator to a dank and muddy basement and entered a hallway lined with storage rooms. She opened a door to a closet-sized space to reveal approximately 20 counterfeit Louis Vuitton bags on display and 40 bagged up to sell.

There were fake Murakami wallets, pochettes and mini Speedy bags in the trademark multicolored monogram and cherry-blossom prints. She also sold copies of the traditional brown monogram Speedy bag and an Epi bag, all from $15 to $45, depending on the buyer’s negotiating skills.

Back on the street, another vendor whispered in that hushed contraband voice, “Louis Vuitton, Louis Vuitton.” Curious whether he had a Murakami dungeon as well (there were none in his stall), I followed him to yet another building a few blocks up on Lafayette. This building was much cleaner and contained a series of shop fronts on its lower level that almost seemed like a minimall. Again I was led to a windowless storage room.

Unlike the first room, this one had a large selection of counterfeit Gucci logo purses and wallets, Dior saddlebags and quilted Chanel bags, none of which I had seen being sold on the street. I asked him about a fake Chanel Ligne Cambon bag, the real version of which is owned by celebrities such as Madonna and Uma Thurman, that was hanging on the wall. A wholesaler from Florida, the vendor said, bought nearly 40 from him at $85 apiece and sold them back in Miami for $400 each.

Clearly, here is where all the counterfeits had gone — into storage rooms like this. There were more fake Murakami bags than I could ever want — although perhaps not enough for some. The selection even included a pink and gold logo canvas Theda knockoff, a style coveted by the designer set.

Last year, LVMH invested nearly $13.6 million in its efforts to fight counterfeit goods.

Exactly! Well said. I find it so funny the way ppl dog the replicas, but realize that it's just another way to "show off" as you put it lol.
I proudly confess to having a well stocked closet of replicas and authentics. My fake Chanel Cambon Ligne rocks (not from Canal st lol)!! I'm a handbag and shoe addict, I definitely do not earn enough to buy the real bag for all the styles I admire. The pieces I love and know I will wear for more than 1 season, I invest in the authentic. The pieces that I'm not sure about or can find a high quality copy I buy the replica.
What I find most funny/interesting is that many socialites / rich women admit to buying replicas also - Nan Kemper (sp) for one...

I don't why there are fake Coaches. But that label is fine for someone who desires a high quality bag for a lower price.

Louis Vuitton is most ideal for luggage. And other things of a practical nature like cases, agendas, etc.
