I just don't see what's supposed to be beautiful on these designs. They are just ugly, ugly, ugly No originality, no elegance, just: wannabe
(wanna show my wealth, wanna be member of the club, wanna pretend or whatever).

I mean these baby pink Dior logo bags for example, they are ridiculous - made for a rich, but 12-year old target group. Why would a lady want to ruin the rest of her outfit with this childish accessory? Same goes with LV bags - I've seen so many girls ruining their outfits by wearing an evening gown with a logo-pochette - probably, because they think: "This is the most expensive (looking) bag I own, so it will work" - no matter if a rhinestone-clutch - even vintage - would have been a better choice.

Good taste may be expensive - sometimes, but style is not about investing in logos. There are so many beautiful designer bags out there - logos etc. are just a way to play it safe. But style isn't about that. People lack of style when playing it safe!
Well, I can say I do not like most monogram styles, but I do have a point of where they are comming from.

I do not own or want to purchase many LV monogram bags, (I have one) but I appreciate it because it was a style made at the turn of the century. I am very into vintage things, have been since I was 10 with my mother buying antiques for dealers. The monogram in the past seemed like a way to identify quality and brand in a way that had never been done before. Honestly, if I were a designer and I was that proud of my product I would monogram it, just like I monogram my beautiful sheets. A monogram says this is mine. I tend to respect monograms of those who I want to respect. I think LV is very respectible. He made beautiful leather goods that are so very French. What I like is that the symbols on the LV bag are ancient French symbols. They show up painted on floors of cathedrals in Paris. I was amazed. It seemed as prominant as the fleur de lis. So the LV pattern is like a piece of French history. Symbology is very powerful. It gives you identity. Again, turning back to my vintage loving ness, I relate to the 1920s when everything French was chic! I do not know if many LV purse lovers appreciate how "French" the pattern is.

Now, I have no idea on the history of the Dior monogram. Correct me if I am wrong, but I think it came more recently?! I feel if Dior did not make it himself (because he is dead) it goes against what the original designers tastes would have been. Coach, Duney, and all those others that follow suit are just silly. Why? Because they are not the innovators. Monograming is really something that was done in history. People forgot about monograms for years till luxury goods started gaining mass popularity in the 80's.

I respect the Chanel CC's because again, she first used this to monogram her perfume bottle top on Chanel No. 5. Chanel as a designer used this to mark her territory, just like anyone would mark their designs with their name. I also respect that Coco knew when enough mongraming is enough. I read she liked her 2.55 purse with out the CC's better. She felt some things are just designed better with out putting the gratuitous monogram on it. You have to be choosey about your monograming. (though I am not sure how the bag ended up with the cc's back on it later on)

... so that is my pro/con monogram arguement...
