GRYSON by Joy Gryson
BG.com is introducing a new line of bags by Joy Gryson. I went to shoptwigs.com and found this blurb:

Joy has worked for industry powerhouses such as Coach, Calvin Klein, and most recently Marc Jacobs, where she held the position of Director of Design and Development for Marc Jacobs Handbags and Accessories. Joy was directly responsible for the design and development of both Marc Jacobs Collection and Marc by Marc handbags and accessories.

Joy has traveled the world designing and developing some of the most recognized handbags in the market. Joy is a long time resident of downtown New York. She was born in Korea and came to the U.S. when she was three years old, and has been a New Yorker ever since. She attended and graduated from the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City. Joy is married to Peter Gryson, and the proud mother of Olivia Gryson.

What do you all think of these bags? I am kind of intrigued by them and their prices are pretty good I think. Photos below from shoptwigs.com...bg.com has a smaller selection of the bags shown (last 2 pics are from them) ....enjoy!

Very nice! I like the one w/ the chain hanging on the front very much.

About how much are these bags?

i like the second to the last one too and also the top two. the pricing is great - all the bags are lined in suede! i am tempted to pre-order one from bg (not sure which yet) but i like the selection and color options better on shoptwigs.com.

btw spirals - that is not a chain on the front of the bag, but a handle (there's one on the other side too) so you have the option to hand hold the bag using the shorter straps or carry on the shoulders with the longer one. so cool! you can see the handles much better on bg.com (click on gryson under handbags).

actually, yes, the first one reminds me of miu miu alot. i really love the color on that one but the shoptwigs site does not give the dimensions of their bags so i have no idea how big/small it is.

Oh! I see it now. Hee, that actually makes more sense then a non-functional chain

Hmm, I like! Very original, now that I see the detailing, the chain looks kinda like the friendship bracelets (lanyards) I used to make out of in elementary school. I think Miu Miu has some keychains out this year exactly like them too.

Gryson Bags Her Own Line
By Sophia Chabbott

NEW YORK — Joy Gryson knows what it takes to create a best-selling handbag.

When she was director of design and development of handbags and accessories for Marc Jacobs and Marc by Marc Jacobs, she was a driving force behind the brand's must-have Stella, Sofia and Zo silhouettes. Now she is translating that know-how into her own line, called Gryson.

"[Working at Marc Jacobs] opened my eyes to the possibilities and limits you want to push, and you can push, in luxury," said the 33-year-old designer, who is based in New York. "We always used the highest-quality materials, such as Italian leathers and suede linings in contrast colors inside the bags. It's about the inside being as beautiful as the outside and my goal is to make that level of luxury more approachable."

Gryson began thinking of founding her own line in June 2004 when she left Marc Jacobs to care for her young daughter and realized she didn't have the cash flow to own a bevy of must-have bags. She figured other women had the same problem.

"On a designer level, it's hard to keep up," she said. "It's very expensive."

Gryson's initial collection for fall, which bows at the Steven Alan Showroom this week, features 10 bags in styles such as a Sixties-inspired cranberry leather shoulder bag with two outer pockets and a top flap, a slouchy distressed olive leather military satchel with chestnut braided handles and a black leather doctor's bag with a top handle and brushed metal buckle.

The collection, which is made in Florence, wholesales from $250 to $450 and will go head-to-head with other contemporary accessories companies like Be & D, Botkier, Bulga and Gustto.

"Brands in the contemporary market such as Kooba, Isabella Fiore and Elisa Atheniese have done a great job keeping the product fresh, with innovative silhouettes and interesting materials mixed with new details, such as hardware, stitching and embroidery," said Ed Bucciarelli, president and chief executive officer of Henri Bendel. "The contemporary handbag category has benefited from two tiers of consumers: the designer customer who can buy several bags to build her wardrobe and the aspirational woman who is willing to invest in such great craftsmanship and detail."
