Takashi Murakami x Louis Vuitton x MoCA x BMA
from the l.a. times:

Quote:
In an unprecedented move in American museum history, Japanese pop-artist Takashi Murakami's upcoming "© Murakami" exhibition will have a mini pop-up Louis Vuitton store in the exhibition. Unlike conventional retail spaces in museum environments that operate outside the showing area, the pop-up store will actual be operated right in the middle of the exhibition. Among the items available for sale are special pieces created for this MoCA (Museum of Contemporary Art Los Angeles) show such as leather goods and handbags. The art derived reasoning behind this concept is best described as a tie-in with the commercialization of Murakami's art alongside the breaking of barriers between low and high art (which has been Murakami's intentions all along). The store itself will operate as it's own entity and MoCA will not receive any proceeds from the sale of LV goods. The show runs from October 29th to February 11th.

Depending on whom you ask, it may just be worth the plane ticket to LA to buy a bag designed by Takashi Murakami. The Japanese artist’s much-hyped new show at the Museum of Contemporary Art (MoCA) in LA features a pop-up version of a Louis Vuitton store (above) selling luxury leather goods (above inset) designed by Murakami—who created one of the all time great cult bags for LV a few years ago. There’s some high-brow explanation for the blending of a luxury brand within a non-profit gallery space, but it breaks down to this: the limited edition handbags, on sale as of this morning, sell for $755-$920 and you can only get them by going to the museum until Feb 11, when the show closes. Even if they were offering them over the phone, it’s impossible to get anyone to answer at the temporary shop: (213) 621-7953. There’s not even a voice mail picking up. “It’s really, really busy over there,” sighed an operator at the museum's general phone number who has started referring the bag hunters to LV’s customer service, (866) 884-8866. The operator on that end says the pop-up shop should have stock until the show closes. But, this is a three-month-plus exhibition: if they do have this kind of supply, the window on this craze ends at Christmas.
anyone going to check this out?
i can't find pics of the bag styles anywhere online except what's above...

hahaha! i will...with my new black locks, i'll play supa' spy! click and run like hell in stilettos! or if they say something to me, maybe i'll just fake a russian accent and pretend i dont understand... "i am russian spy"!

i was going to buy one and resell it. and maybe pick up a mushroom man agenda or coin pouch to keep. i think a full on bag would be too much for my personality/taste...

I could cry that this will never make it to Europe

I think that the MC agendas with the lil' cartoon are SO KEWT! It's SICK!

I'm especially envious of those lil' stickers and papers and crap that are included with the agenda.

*MEWANTS!*

get this......
they're selling 16x16" squares of the monogram canvas tacked to wood like a painting canvas..... "limited edition" & signed...for $10,000!!

what idiot would pay that & then hang the monogram canvas as "art" in their home or whatever?

You know what smart people would do?

Buy some super duper A++++ fake Multicolor Keepall, cut it up, get a canvas in that size and glue the fake MC Keepall canvas on.

In total, it'll have the same effect, but you can bet that you saved at least 9,500 US-Dollars.

Oh, and to answer your question Ale: Nouveau Riche Chinese & Russian people.

I'm definitely not a fan, but I will admit that there are worse LV bags out there. Case in point, the majority of the S/S 08 ones!

No no no. Love Murakami as an artist, but none of his LV bags. Or most LV bags in general.........

Well, according to TPF, there'll be a Camoflage collection next year, again a collabo with Murakami.

And may I please add that I HATE camo?
