Yes, the Canon Rebel XTi is a VERY good DSLR. I've always used the canon IXUS series for point&shoot, and getting the XTi was a very smooth transition-it's very light, easy to use, and AFFORDABLE. The kit lens isn't the best though, I must admit...I'll be getting a new lens soon

Some pics taken with my rebel xti:

Some pics taken with my old point&shoot, Canon IXUS 75, which I LOVE still:

both are really good cameras...my DSLR gives me many more options, though, manual settings, aperture priority, etc. while my point&shoot is more efficient for taking quick snapshots, carrying around in a small purse, easier to take 'self'-pictures...

I'm buying a new compact cam and I'm not sure, Canon or Nikon? I had Canon Ixus a few years ago lol, but maybe i could try Nikon ... just not sure which is better.

the Rebel looks like it delivers AWESOME images. i am just so impressed with the shots posted, although i know they're still products of good photographers

@ Stasha: I personally would go with Nikon, but the Canon looks very impressive as well. When you say a new "Compact" cam, do you mean a point & shoot?

I am interested in purchasing a good camera and I don't know which one to choose. Can anyone please give me some advice as to which is better -
Canon IXUS range or SONY Cybershot range??

Thanks!!

i know that most people would tell you, w/o a doubt, to purchase the Canon over the Sony simply because of the brand. It's best to read online reviews, though. Whenever i read reviews on Canon's cameras i always read great things.

Yep, and I'm searching something not too expensive, to around 350€. I am thinking Nikon, but which one?

It's true that people do recommend Canon a lot..not only because it's a famous name, canon cameras are very good and deliver well. It deserves all the hype that it gets. In my opinion canon has the most easy-to-navigate controls. I think the canon powershot G7 is the closest thing to a DSLR a point&shoot can be. I've never owned it, but I have a friend who does, and I thought it was some kind of compact DSLR. So that would probably be a good choice if you are looking for a point&shoot that is more 'professional'(with 10MP) and if you want a nice compact camera to use other than just for taking quick party snapshots and stuff.
